We desire to call the attention of our

der's attention to the advertisement of the Soelu l
Club, whose pic nle excursion comes oil’ to-day.
The steamer will leave the Florida Wharf at
about half-past eight o'clock. These excursions
are gotten up for the purpose of alfording pleas
ant recreation dut^ng the hot summer mouths,
and the faro 1ms been placed at a very low figure,
in order simply to meet expenses. Tickets iur
gentlemen are put at 81, nud for ladies at 50c'.,
while children and servants accom puny lug them
arc placed on the free list. We hope to see the
boat crowded.
ToritKA, in Kansas, is a vbuy Tmhstt
Town.—A late number of the paper publishes
the wonderful intelligence that “the old piouccr
well” in that place had “glu eout!" and adds if
tho city fathers would make a good well, where
all could be accommodated, “water would soon
be as cbcnrMW whisky, aud a great many be In
duced to use it as a boveruge!!” From which
we infer that water in Topeka is not relied upon
it oa a steady drink,”
Agckptancb or the Hon. Edwakd Eveh-

was to have been held at Faneull Jiall on the 1st

Tho Times on Garibaldi.
[From tho Londou Times, May IStli.j
Garibaldi and his 8,000 men will lie merely the
nueleus round whieli thu iusurrectlomny levy oi
the islands is to IJeguUierod': ho iniisl have trinde
up bis mind to depend wholly uu untlvu nsslit-
ance, and to conquer the Bourbons bv the aid of
lliolr own subjects, aud perhaps of their own sol
diers. What concerns ns more Is thu course in
events lie tho island itself! imd here the General
seems to be doing ns well us can be expected.—
This tlmo twelvemonth, when it was aiiuoimemi
thot Garibaldi was rushing In on the Austrian
territory with n handful oi inou, the universal
feeling was that whatever might be the Usue oi
the war, the foulhurdy leader would lie crushed
by the masses of thu enemy which were concen
trated about tho Lakes. But he was not crushed.
With incredible rapidity he made Ills way from
point to point, avoidingcombnta, cxccpt whoro he
fought at something likeau equality of number*,
attacking tho Austrians when they thought him
. ut a distance, aud inflicting on them.,If not great
losses, at least shameful and provoking defeats.
Garibaldi may very well be expected to. do some
thing of tho same kind pow. It is clear that the
Insurrection Is In full progress, and thut the
Royal troops have as yet been unable to do more
than hold their own. If this was the ease before
the arrival of Garibaldi, it may bo presumed that
the prospects of the Sicilians will bo wonderfully
brightened by his presence, by the vigor whieli
he will Infuse iuto their movements, and bv the
discouragement he will inflict on their enemies.
The despatches of thu Neapolitan Government
are ominous by their vagueness.
“From all sides wo learn that the eilect of the
expedition In Southern Italy bus been most re
markable. Calabria Is in a ferment, and the
Mrie says that an insurrection in Calabria, ami
another in the Ahmad, is spoken of as having
commenced. Into the probabilities of such d
movement we cannot enter. If, however, these
provinces utteinpt to shake oil' the royal yoke,
the assistance to the Sicilians will be grout, in
deed. But tho most important question is the
behaviour of the Neapolitan troops. The cause
of the King depends on their ttdellty; yet, they
