. U. W. Cobb —It appeals from the tele
graph that Mr. Cobb, u | Juekson county, In
this State, Representative elect to the Confede
rate Congress, bus already been brought to tbo
intention of ibu House to which he has beeu
elect.d. Mr Chilton Ironi this District intro
duced a resolution on tho second day of iho
session, asking that a committee bo appointed
to investigate the charges of disloyalty ugaiust
Mr. Cobb. We aro not lutonue.d whether Mr.
Cobh» bus .made his appearance at Richmond; it.
"as stall’d some time atoco in mo newspapers
that he was at Washington. Bat la view of the
Yumora aud published statements iuvotvxuic his
liddlty, it was proper that the House should
take steps to ascertained the lacs, so that, it
true, he might be «xpcilcd or denied a seat in
the body.
The position oi Mr. Cobb has not been ab >ve
suspicion since the secession ol tbe State; for,
it will be remembered, that ho retained his
place in tbe Yaakee Congress, and loitered
about Wfffihiagton, after tbe withdrawal ot the
other members, and, if we mistake not, even
after the Ordinance bad been passed resuming
the powers delegated by Alabama lo the Feder
ul Government. We believe, however, he did
tlnaliy make out lo abandon his old haunts at
Washington, and returned lo North Alabama.—
At the election for members to our Congress in
1801, so stroug was the impression that he still
h irtiored sentiments of hostility to the Confed
eracy, that he was defeated by Dr. Ralls, an ar-
Jeut supporter of secession. On the first occu
pation ot that section by tbe enemy In 1802,Tie
is reported to have been on good terms with
them. But, notwithstanding all this, he trl
umphed over hie former competitor by a large
majority. It is believed that iu this instance
he received material aid from tbe deserters and
motors.
Since his election, reports have reached here,
through trustworthy sources trom North Ala-
bama, as well us from Northern papers, con
necting Mr. Cobb with a meeting held in Belle-
fonte, Jackson county, to select a Representa
tive for that District in the Ysnkee Congress.
His claims seemt nevertheless, to have been
overslaughed, /tnd another renegade was chosen,
it has also been stated by gentlemen of high
character from that section that tbe Yankees
prevailed upon him the past winter to take an
oath not to go to Richmond and take his seat in
the Confederate Congress. AH the facts In his
cate will doubtless be elicited by tbe Congres
sional Commit lee, and 11 injustice has been
