THE number of persons accufod of conspiracy, arrested
in the department of Eure and Loire, are 42 ; they
arrived at Paris on the 25th Vendemaire in 9 carriages,
and have been conduced to the prison of the Temple.
Letters from Dublin announce that Ireland is greatly
agitated, and that a great number of families are emigrat
mg.
OBobcr 29. The Tribunal of the Department of Gavd
has condemned*- one Anthony Soiiier to be two years in
chains, and to be exposed as a puolic fpeftacle, for having
hawked about, and read to threfc women in a tavern, the
protestation of Camille Jordan against the proceedings cf
the 1 8 th Fruftidor, (4th of September last)- when two
Members of the Directory and io many Members of the
two Councils were proferibed.
London, October 3. A moft uncommon clrcumftance
occurred on Tuesday in the city road. A large dog, of
the niaftiff breed, happened topafs near a game cock, when
the latter, without any provocation, aflailed the dog with
the utmost violence. Ibe dog became irritated and in his
turn attacked the game cork. A severe combat cnlued;
but the vigilance and dexterity of the cock ducted every
attempt of the dog to hurt him. At length the cock flew
upon the dog’s back, and with ms beak aftually put out
both his eyes. He then continued the attack with so much
ferocity that in a short time die dog fell to the ground,
when the cock flruck him a blow with his lied, which pe
netrated to his brains, and he instantly expired. There
were above 500 persons witnefles to this curious battle.
Fifty guineas were offered for the game cock and refilled.
October 15. Ihe following article is extruded from
tlie Annates Politiques & Ljttcraires , pubiifhed at Paris:
“ The French will not be attached to the representative
system, and to republican laws, until the laws (hall have
rendered them happy. It would be extremely absurd to
expert freon them an ardent zeal for the Republic lo long
as commerce languishes, their fields remain uncultivated,
tlieir fortunes wrested from them, and tlieir children led to
tlie field of battle. A wifli for repose is at present the general
sentiment in France.”
Manfredi, an Italian ProfefTor at Paris, has announced
an Exhibition, at which the Corps Diplomatique are to be
preient* He is there to dirtate to ten persons at once ten
letters on different fubjerts, in five diftinft languages, the
french, Latin, Italian, Spanilb, and Engl if},. He is at
the fame time to compose impromptus in Italian Recitative,
and extempore lines in Latin Hexameters and Pentameters,

this day informed the House that he had tranfimtted to
Admiral Lord Duncan tlie unanimous vote of thanks of that
House, for his late glorious virtory over the Datcn fleet,
to which the Noble Admiral had returned an ant wer, ex
pressing the high sense of that honor, and the iatirtirtion
afforded him that he had been fortunate enough to render a
service to his country, and to obtain the appiooation o

November *7. ‘The gold emblematical decorations on
tlie two boxes of Irifli oak to be preiented with the freedom
of the City of Dublin to Admirals Duncan and Onflow are,
Britannia and Hibernia, in erect attitudes, viewing the
Ocean with exaltation, and Neptune , with his trident,
paying homage; the-Britilh and Dutch fleets at a distance;
with tiie motto of, “ Rule Britannia” withcorrefponding
ornaments..
The gun which did moft execution from tlie Venerable
was a 64 lb. carronade on the forecaitle, which Uncharged
seven 9 pounders every time it was fired.
November -18. His Majesty, on the firft interview
*vvith Lord Duncan and Capt. Fairfax, expressed fome anx
iety to know how long they had been ihipmates. The
venerable Admiral replied, 4 ‘ I am ajhamed to tell your
Majesty how long,” Capt. Fairfax observed, he had had
that diftinguilhed lionor and luppmefs for tlie space of seven
and forty years.
November 20. The following are the regulations of
the Navy for gratuities paid by Government to the relations’
of officers and others flam in fight, and to which the rela
tives of thole killed in Admiral Duncan’s fleet are entitled,
belides what niay>arife from tlie humane contributions of
the public: _
r. ■ To a widow, a full year’s pay, according to the
station of her husband at his death.
2. To each orphan, one third of the proportion of a
widow; posthumous children are esteemed orphans; but
orphans who are married are not entitled to any gratuitv.
3. When there is no widow tlie mother of the decealei
(if a widow, and above 50 years of age) is entitled to wi
dow’s ffiare.
4* Captains are to return the names of all slain at the
end of the mutter book, and on what occasion.
5* These gratuities to extend to all who are slain in
tenders, in beats, or alhore on duty, as well as thole on
board ll.ips of war; also to thole slain in fight with pirates,
or in an encounter with (hips of friends by mistake.
N. B. All those who die of tlieir wounds after a battle
are esteemed as llain in fight.
Perth, OShber 26.,- At a meeting of the Royal Perth
Volunteers this evening iool. sterling was unanimoullv
voted, amidst the hearty plaudits of all present, towards
the relief of the widows and families of those brave fellows
wiio fell or have been wounded in the late glorious artion
with tlie Dutch fleet, off tlie coast of Holland, under tlie
command of the gallant Admiral Duncan.
Dublin. October 7 — French Spy. —Tor tlie last two
days the people of Dublin have been occupied by a very
extraordinary report, which by inquiry we believe to be

comparatively great Humanity. It is fortunate so humane
a Magistrate as M. Aylmer ffiouH happen to be ia the
neighborhood, as it leaves a hope that jultice may be obi.

BOSTON, January 3.
A GENTLEMAN from Cayenne informs us of the
arrival there of the French citizens direrted to be
transported by the decree of September 4th. He few them
several times, and their deportment was melancholy, though
firm. ‘1 hey were allowed to walk for exercifo within cer
tain limits, but they were always attended by a guard.
On their arrival the Commandant cf tlie troops addrefied
the fiddlers on the event; but instead of the fliou's of Vive
la Rcpublique , Sec. which ufualiy succeeded harangues of
the kind, the soldiers remained lilent and fad.

Above 150,000 dollars, in specie, were tranfpirted yes
terday in waggons from the Branch B >nk in this town, to
f take pillage for Algiers on board the Crescent frigate,
Capt. Newman, now lying at Portsmouth. This fiiip, it
is laid, will fail in a few days.
Six hundred and thirty-four vessels, including Slips,
snows, brigs, fehooners, and Hoops, arrived at Boston, in
the year 1797, from foreign ports. Gfe.ired 10 foreign

January 10. A letter from Malaga, November 6, to
