Resolved , That notice be given m the next Gazettes 01
the city, forbidding the sale of Twenty-five Negroes, ad
vertised bv- Mr. Norment, Tax Collector of Chatham coun
ty, as being forfeited to the state, the said Negroes being
confined by the Corporation, under the following clause of
a law of the state, entitled, “ An Aft to organize the Mi
litia in the leveral new Counties of this State,” passed the 2 2d
February, 1796) as meai’ures have been and are now taking
by the Corporation for carrying the said clause into effedt,
viz.
“ And be it further enacted, That the. Officers of the
Militia in the firft brigade in the firft divilion ftiall lie au
thorized and empowered, in their refpedlive patrol diftricls,
to appretond any Negro, Muftee, or Mulatto, freeman
•or freemen, Have or Haves, who ftiall. hereafter arrive in
any port of this state from any of the Weft India or Ba
hama lilnnds, and to keep such Muftees, Negroes, or Mu
lattoes, in close and fafe custody, until they can be exam
ined before the Corporation of Savannah, or any’ three
Justices of the Peace for any of the counties lying in the
laid division, who are hereby authorized to cause such free
man or freemen, Have or Haves, to be exported at the ex
pence of the importer or owner, which such importer or
owner is hereby made liable for, as well as for the expence
of apprehending or keeping such persons.”

RUN AWAY from the fubferiber at Savannah . this
morning, the Negro Man and Wench hereafter
deferibed :
‘■ ‘VTED, a country born fellow, near
IN or quite 38 years of age, about
5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, speaks very
plain Engbfh, has a very gross voice,
is of a yellowi'h complexion, and is re
markable for having 6 toes on each foot,
___________ and 5 fingers on each hand, has loft le
veral of his fore teeth, both above and
below, and has very thick lips, had on a brown jacket and
trowfers nearly new, and carried away with him a dark
London brown broad cloth coat, with many other articles
of clothing.
JENNY, his wife, a country born weneb, about the
fame age and height of the fellow, of a black complexion,
has a small fear on her left check, as well as can he recol
lected, speaks very plain Engljlß, has a fmcH ivaift, and is
well made, is very fenfib : e and artful; she has a mother
and other relations in-the Fork of Broad *River, near Pe
tersburg, Elbert county, where it is moft probable they
will hereafter proceed, fhoulcl they not before be taken up.
Any person apprehending and delivering them to the
Keeper of tlie Prison at Savannah lhall be entitled to the

inclined to the right fide of his head, excessively artful,
and handy at any work. Nanny, his wife, a country born
wench, about the fame age, 5 and an half feet high, black
complexion, finding countenaiice, very heavy with child,
speaks plain Englilh, and commonly wears handkerchiefs
tied about her head and neck. Joe , her child, 5 years of
age; and John , his brother, 2 and an half. They carried
away their blankets, many articles of clothing, and feme
provisions. They were completely drolled with new suits
of dark London brown bath coating. It is folpefted they
have gone to fome of the Carolina neighboring plantations,
where Sharper has a great number of relatiohs and acquaint
ances. Any person that wIH secure them in the common
