Sir, I have the honor to inform you that, chafing from the squadron under your command yesterday, I captured the Bolador, a Spanish corvette, of 16 guns and 74 men, schooner rigged, commanded by Don Antonio Rodriguez. I fry in 3Hth and captuVfed, after a chafe of four hours, La Mooche, a National corvette, fitted out in every refpeft for a fix weeks cruise by the merchants at Rochelle; had been from that place 15 days without nuking any Engliih captures; Ihe sent in, five days prior to my falling in with her, an American, from the Ille of France, bound to Bourdeaux, which (he detained on fofpicion, having no French pass cn board. La Mouche is a ftiio of considerable force, having 11 ports of a fide, but only 16 twelve pounders on board when I fell in, with her, 6 of which were thrown overboard during the chafe. The Captain of lier informs me foe had a thorough repair and was new coppered in September last. That Ihe fails remarkably faft there is no doubt of, as, had it not been for her carrying away her fore top mast during the chafe, the determined way,in which foie continued on on after that, notwithftinding the Diana’s foot going over her, gave me reason to fear, from tlie evening coming oft 1 very thick and foggy, 1 might have loft her.
