PUBLIC notice is hereby given, That, by an a# of Congress, pafled on the 19th day of March 1798, the following alterations and amendments have been made to the a#, palftd on the 6th day of July 1797, entitled, “ An A# lay ing Duties on Stamped Vellum, Parchment, ind Paper.” • I. ‘The stamp duties on debentures or Certificate for tie drawback of Customs or duties on imports are repealed. 11. A difeount at the rate of seven and one half per centum will be allowed by the supervisors or infpedtors refpedively to any persons, other than officers of the re venue, wla> may purchase at one time, or procure to be stamped, any quantities of vellum, parchment, or paper, upon which the duties shall amount to ten dollars or upwards. 111. Stamped piper will’ be provided, and fold at the rates preferibed by law, without any additional charge or expence on account of the price of paper; but for stamped parchment or vellum an additional price will be demanded at tire rate of 50 tents for each skin of parchment, or aoo eenti-for each fkitt of vellum, of medium fl-re, which may be formfeed at the expence of the United States, and pro. portioually for any lesser quantity. IT is recommended to the Brigadiers of the refpe#iv” Brigades to jrermit a troop of horse to be railed in every county within their commands whose numbers will poflibly admit of it. 4 The refpecrive troops of horse already commissioned are required to equip theirtfelVes completely botfi vitbrefpe# to horses and accoutrements, and to hold themselves in rcadi nefs to take tire field at tire fliojteft notice. The Commanding Officers of regiments and battalion* in the firft Brigade of the firft divifiom will attend to the difeipline and equipment of their officers and men, and hold themselves in readiness to defend the coast, in case of invasion from any enemy; and, in case of adlual invasion, the officer commanding where the invasion takes place will dispatch an immediate exprefa to the Commander in chief, and to the Commander of the Brigade, for orders, and in the mean time refill the enemy with all his force. The Chatham Artillery will not leave the City of Savannah Avithout orders hum the .Commander in -chief, except-in fmali detachments sos rire river Savannah or Thunderbolt river, or Augustine’s creek, for the defence of tire city. The Commander of the Brigade, in case of actual invasion, will, until the orders of the Commander in chief reaches him, march, if he thinks proper, any part of the remainder iff the Brigade to any place orpoft within the fame. The Commanding Officer of the fecund Brigade of the firft divilion will hold his brigade in readiness to fupporc the firft brigade on the foorteft notice. The other General and Field Officers are required to at tend to the difeipline of their refpeiftive commands, and be prepared to defend their country against any attack which, although the Commander in chief is in strong hopes will not take place,.it behoves all ranks of citizens to guard against any hostile approach. - By order of the Commander in chief, THOMAS JOHNSON, Sec. £.
