As soon as our worthy Prefiddnt arrived at the ferry (lairs he fired a salute in union with our own cannon on the battery, who together rent tlie air and (hook the earth with their loud and tremendous applause. Mean time he was received at the wharf by the largeil convuuAe of citizens we have ever wiuieffed, and by the uniform companies, the Walhingcon and county troop oi horse, all under the command of Col. Morton. Every countenance was brightened with pfeaiure, and every eyt eagerly and exultingly gazed on the men whose wiidoin and firranefs have detedled the deligns of our enemies, and awakened the faersd spirit of 1776 in all our breasts. It was highly gratifying to every friend of his countiy to observe the patriotic enthulklin of the multitude that continually burst forth in loud and reiterated huzzas, li very street through which our beloved and venerable “ Chief’ pafied was crowded with fpeclitors. Every w.ndow was filled and almost every home top covered. Such was the fervent delire of all classes to fee, at this eventful period, him on whose incorruptible integrity, deep duccminent, and undaunted fortitude, all their hopes are placed. It is impoilible in any defeription to do iumcient justice to the martial appearance and (kill displayed by die mili tary, or to convey an adequate idea of the unbounded love of country and attachment to government evinced by the aflembled thousands.
