Y<-ftepJay mnroM* th* noted defperpdo, who called
himfclf Gen. O’Neil, and was at the head of the plunder
ing gang who lately robbed thecnail coaches in tile coun

I); ury lane in the foft embraces of a Dulcinea. His cou
rage was completely out on this occalion., for he was in
gri*at trepidation when taken into cuftocß. The doughty
General was conveyed to a fecurfc lodging in Gaftle-yard,
where he Hill remains.
We are extremely sorry to fay that difturbnnces and
nocturnal robberies (till continue to annoy the peaceabl e
inhabitants of the county of Wicklow; feafeely a night
p'.Tes in the v’cinityof Bray, Newtown Mount Kennedy,
DJgany, and that quarter, without fome outrages of this
fort being committed by detachments of rebel banditti.
No less thah 18 fellows have been taken up and com
mitted to prison by Capt. Cnlthurfl.
F.xtr SI f a letter from BXibiglafs, December 13.
“ Saturday, being the fair day of this town, proved a
melancholy one indeed. As several of the loyal inhabitants
of this neighborhood were at St ohm, between this town
and Stratford, on their return home they were pursued by
a party of the rebels, who, taking advantage of the 89th
regiment being under orders to march the following morn
ing, attacked, and (I am sorry to fay) killed 7?of them.
One, a gallant lad, named M cginnes, a member of Capt.
Saunders's corps, was pursued by dhety to his father’s boufe
and was nioft barbarously nwhiered in his mother’s arms.
Two f jhli. rs of the 89th, who had walked a little way
out of tin* town, were waylaipj and (hot in a mod inhuman
manner. They and the other victims were this day buried
with mil) ary honors. All this happened so early as 3or
4 o’clock in the evening. The night proved nearly as
m Tan chat yas the dav. The Labels, yrent to the house of
Mr. Wilson, who is feijeant in Mr. Saunders’s corps, de
ftroyed’every thing'of vaiue in his boufe, and, in the wan
tonrrfs of mis liief. cut the throats of all his fowls, fcat
teivd Vut all his flour, tea, and sugar, on the floor, mixed
■with glass and trampled it under their feet, to prevent it
be ng of any use. Last night tbev went to Stephen Wil
son’s of B rron flown, burnt his house to the ground, and
dcflroycd his haggart, which was worth upwards of 4001.
and were then proceeding to his brother’s, when a party of
the dragoons quartered at Timolin came on them and ob
liged them to retreat. Capt. Ryves, Gen. Dundas’s Aid
de Camp, was yesterday fired at from behind a hedge.
. Capt. Saunders amt two other gentlemen, riding near the
Glen of Amail, were feme days ago fired at from behind
a hedge, but received no injury. In Ihort, there is scarce
a day or night pafies that we do not hear of fome murder
or robbery being committed.”
December 20. A well armed banditti entered the
house of the Rev. Mr. Ryan, P. P. of Arklow, on Fn
d \y night lift, with blackened faces, and, after pinioning
the servants, plundered it of every article of value, when,
horrible to re late, they murdered the unfortunate gentle
man in the moft inhuman manner.
January 21. We arc happy to hear by authentic letters
from the county of (Tare that the infurretilion which for a
few davs existed there, and was drafted up by rumor in such
.so ••mi la’ de colors, has been completely got tinder, on the
firlt advance of an efficient force against the insurgents,
upwards of -no of whom were killed at the firil oulet, and
the rest as iflual fled in all directions.
