The following Tracts of Land, viz.
One trail in Chatham county, containing 400 acres, si
tuate on the north fide of Little Ogechee, adjoining lands
of Thomas Johnston and George Walton, formerly the
property of lhoinas Ried. • ~
One trail in Effingham county, containing 350 acres,
on the north fide of Canouchie, about three miles from the
liver. . .
One other trail in Effingham county, containing 300
acres, lying on Black Creek, above Bird’s mill, on the.
south fide of Great Ogechee.
Which two last mentioned trails of land were formerly
the property of Isaac Baillou.
Conditions of sale: One fourth part of the purchase mo
ney to be paid on the ill day of February next, and the
remainder in three annual payments, with interest from

COTTON GINNING.
fubferibers having their cotton ginning machinery
JL in complete order, which, being impelled by water,
will enable them to carry on the business on an extensive
scale, offer to gin cotton, with, rollers, on the following
low terms:
They will engage to gin, clean, and pack, fit for market,
the black feed cotton, at the low rate of two pence per
pound; and, for every hundred pounds of good unginned
green feed cotton they may receive thev will engage to re
turn twenty pounds oFtne fame cotton well ginned and
packed, the owners finding bagging. Persons willing to
have their cotton well and expeditiously ginned muff deliver
it at Mr. Ward’s plantation, opposite to Savannah, on Hut
cbinfon’s liland, where the cotton can be landed from anv
vessel drawing not more than five cr fix feet water direftly
into tiie gin house. Apply at said plantation, or to either
of the fubferibers in Savannah, who will pay cafli for good
black feed cotton unginned.

11 th or 12th instant, A NEGRO MAN, named
JOE; he is young, strong, active, and artful, about 5 feet
8 or 9 inches high; when a boy he waited about lirufe, and
attended me in Charleftcn, and since that in this {late,
therefore well known; speaks plain English, only when
attempting to speak fafl Hammers a little. A Ihort time
lince he was brought from on board a vessel at the riding
ground near Mr. N. Turnbull’s. A reasonable reward
will be paid to whoever will lodge him in gaol in this city,
with all necessary charges, if any. All Captains of vefiels
and other persons are cautioned agair.ft harboring or carry
ing him away, as they will be prosecuted as the law di

the Keeper of the Worichoufedn Savannah; and if harbor
ed by a white person a further reward of 30 dollars will be
paid on conviction, by applying to Meins and Mackay in
Savannah, or the fubferiber at his plantation on St. Si
mon’s. % S. WRIGHT.

A PREMIUM FOR GENIUS.
EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT.

TFIE AO, entitled, “ An Aft for altering the Great
Seal of the State of Georgia,” pafled the Bth day of
February, being taken up and considered,
It is ordered, That a premium of 30 dollars be given
for the best drawing of the device for the great seal of this
state, in pursuance of the 2d feftion of the said aft, the
device being as follows, to wit:
On the one fide, a View of the Seaflipre, with a
Ship, bearing the Flag of the United States, riding at an
chor near a Wharf, receiving on board Hogfticads of To
bacco and Bales of Cotton, emblematic of the exports of
this state; at a small distance a Boat landing from the in
terior of the state with, Flog (heads, &c. on board, repre
senting her internal traffic; in the back part of the fame
fide, a Man in the aft of Ploughing, and at a small dist
ance a Flock of Sheep in different postures, shaded by a
Flourilhing Tree: The motto on this fide, AGRICUL
TURE AND COMMERCE, 1799. That the other fide
contain Three Pillars {importing an Arch, with the word
CONSTITUTION engraven within the fame, emblematic
of the Constitution fuppOrted by the Three Departments of
Government, viz. the I^gidative, Judicial, and Execu
tive; the firft pillar to haye engraven on its base, WIS
DOM; the second, JUSTICE; and the third, MODE
RATION; on the right of the last pillar, a Man {larding
with a Drawn Sword, representing the aid of the Military
in defence of the Constitution: The motto, STATE OF
GEORGIA, 1799.”
Provided fudi drawing be lodged in the Executive Office
at Louisville on or before the 20th day of April next; the
size of the seal to be two inches and one quarter in diame
ter.
Amd it is further ordered , That proposals be received
at the fame Office, until the 20th of April, for forming,
making, and engraving the fame, agreeably to such device
and drawing, in a masterly and workmanlike manner, -on
or before the 3d day of July next. Bond and security to
be given for the due performance of the work within the
time limited in the sum of 2000 dollars. The propofalt
will be lealed up, addressed to the Executive, and marked,
Proposals for forming, making, and engraving the great
seal of the State of Georgia. The drawings will also lie
foaled up, addressed in like manner, and marked, Drawings
for the device of the great seal, and will be examined or
the 20th of April aforefaid.
The calh will be paid for the drawing the moment it ia
decided on as the best design, afid for the seal immediately
the w<j>k is completed and delivered, if applied for.
