declare in favor of tire Union, and to do that in the capa

July 31. A? the moment our paper was about to be
put to press the Hamburgh mail of this morning reached
us. The following is a short abftradt of its principal con
tents;
A supplement to the latest Vienna Court Gazette con
tains an account of the fnrrender of the ftFong fort of Ur
bano alter a heavy bombardment of three hours; 700 men,
30 pieces of cannon, and a large magazine of ammunition
and provision, were taken there. The garrison was dif
mifTed on its engaging not to serve agairdb the Allies for
fix months.

of our Generals remain in the army of Naples, .all the rest
being either killed or wounded.”
Official letters from Sir Sydney Smith, relative to the
diicomfititre ot Buonaparte before Acre, were read at the
Euft India House. Buonaparte’s army, totally dispirited
from their innnenfe iofs, and worn out with fatigue, having
been furniftied tvith Rioes and water gourds to cross the
defart, left Acre on the 20th May. His inhuman conduct
towards Lis own wounded is beyond example; he dragged
them along with him to Jaffa, and there lent them to Di
mietta cn board vessels without water, provifons, and
seamen. Such of those poor wretches who could move
decided to steer straight for Sir Sydney Smith, in perfect
confidence, ot his affording them the good offices of hu
manity, and in which we are happy to observe they* we re
not disappointed. Lvthd’e vessels were also found all Buon
aparte’s 12 pounders that he had with him at Acre; his
18 and 24 pounders and mortars lay scattered on the road
with the dead and dying the whole way between Acre and

Vienna, Aiigujt 3. Triumph! Triumph! Mantua, the
key of Italy, has fallen! and its compieft is secured to the
victorious arms of our Monarch.
Gen. Melas has sent hither by Capt. Erte! cf the Engi
neers the capitulation of the ci.adel of Alexandria, lxdides
6 Rands of colors, which the garrison has laid down.
According to letters from Constantinople Buonaparte is
endeavoring to escape from Egypt to France; but Commo
dore Sir Sydney Smith had made Rich preparations on -the
co'aß of Egypt that it will not be easy for a French fliip to
get away.
Leghorn, July 19. In the night between the 16th
and 17th inst. the French evacuated this city.
The French evacuated Pisa on the 17th, and. Lucca is
now likewile free from them.
Bologna, July 16. On the 13th 22,000 Neapolitans
advanced againß Ancona, and made themfelyes matters of
that place.
Fort Leo, in the Papal territory, surrendered to an
Austrian Captain of marines on the 13th. ‘ The garrison,
confiding ot 17 officers, 23 inferior oiKcefs, 5 coumiiffa
ries, and 163 privates, was permitted to retire, on condi
tion of not fen ing for one twelvemonth against the Em
peror and his allies.
Rovcrcdo, July 24. Rome is said to be already oc
cupied by tlie Allies.
Lower Elbe, Augujl 16. Eighteen thousand men have
been detached from Mantua to join the grand army cf the
Ruffian Chief. Gen. Jcubert will find his hands full on
a (Turning the command of the united forces of Macdonald
and Moreau, with the reiiffiorcementsTVoin-Nice, as- tlie
whole will not amount to more than 32.000 men. Mo
reau goes to the army of Switzerland, and Maffena is laid
to be recalled to Paris.

Le Bordelais privateer of Bourdeaux has taken eight
prizes, which will not alienate ’from us anv of our friends
of the neutral powers; they are all good Englilh prizes;
