To the Editor of the True B'Atcn.
’ Sir, Having fen,in your paper of Saturday, ail ac
oan: of what puffed in the, High Court of Admiralty re
vive to the cases of the Nymph and Minerva, I feel it a
luty incumbent on. me, beijig the perfion therein deferibed
isthe Agent for the American Claimants, to take the ear-
j f (t opportunity of-rectifying foiliC rr.iftakes in the report.-.
They were the cases of-two flips, Americans, which •
lad been employed in,carrying on,a trade from the Spaniih
Monies of Old Spain. In the course of.'tj^if/voyages they
KVe taken by French cruisers, and aftyr\ya?tls:.retaken by
3,-itiih (hips of way being merelyym oqcafieflal trade open
d to them by the enemy to'‘relieve hinifclf from die present
reiia e of the wa& and that therefore.- the dli’ps and car
■oes are good prizes. A queftiori upon Tins very fubjeft
. pow depending before -the Lords of Appeal for a conli
icrable time, This the case, the learned Judge ob
erved, that it would be better for him lojlifpend giving
lis judgment on these cases tiji the quefbon was determin
d by the Lords, inafmucli as -it-would tave ffived the ex
icnce of appeals to both the parties; that the one eighth,
Aiicli was at any rate due for fdlvage, might be paid to
he captors at prelent, and that the remaining seven eighths
night be veiled in the-public funds, to,accumulate for the
lentfit of those who might be ultimately entitled. I cer
ainly applied to have-those remaining fevfn eighths deli
rcred the Americans upon bail, knowing very well that it
yas merely dilcretionary in* the Court, and which I could
lot claim otherwise than ah indulgence* It was refilled
>y the captors, oft the ground that they would have a right ,
to the intermediate profits, if the general question of the
llcgality of the trade was ultimately 1 decided for them; the
udge was of that opinion, and added; that he did not
think that this trade, between the Colorty and the Mother
Country of the enemy was entitled to any particular in
dulgent; that, if he exerciied Ids judgment to all upon
the cases, he feared he muff* in. cdnformstyi to former pre
cedents, condemn die'property; blit that he thought it the- !
bell for all parties to wait the decifioivofAhe Lords, and
that in the mean time he would direct the property to ac
cumulate. As to liis fayijigrthat & the Engliih Colonies,
[having feparated'from'the..-Mather Country) were entitled

Ihvo schooners and a brig from New York, bound to An
