‘With 40 men, was taken by Rigaiul’s badges stud Carried
into Petit Goave, after engaging them three hours, with
the loss of 4 men If Hied and 7 wounded. Upon taking
pofieffion of the brig they inurdered all the cre\V excepting
.9, including the wife of the fiipercargo and two other lu- ‘
dies, whom they previnully violated in the presence of the
husband. A fchooher, name unknown, luppofed to be an
American, has like wife been carried into Petit Goave v and’
the crew murdered.
December 7. The brig Eliza, Wright, from Norfolk,
arrived at Lucea last Tuesday. On the paflage picked up
two of the crew of the letter of marque fchoojier Ann,
belonging to Baltimore, which upset in November on the
coast of America; 1 o persons perilhed.
King son, December 4. A small veflel arrived yester
day morning from Aux Cayes. In her came down Mr.
Dance, who went up a pafienger in the brig George of
this port, to Port an Prince. By him we have confirma
tion of the melancholy fate of Mr. George Smyth, to
whom that vefiel in part belonged. It appears he was mur
dered in one of the boats seven hours after their capture,
as well as a lady and young man that were with him.
Capt. M‘Leod did not kill himlelf, but fell by the hands
of the enemy.
The ftiip Huntrcfs of New York, laden with lumber, is
ashore on the outside of tiie Paliifadocs, and it is not
known whether ffie will be got off.
NEIV-YORK, December 15.
BY the arrival of Capt. Foster from St. Jago, in 20
days, we were favored with the following: On the
sth November tlie Boston frigate, Capt. Little, chafed on
ffiore a French {hip called the Egyptian, mounting 40
brals guns and carrying 250 men, and on the 7th took a
small lugger, with swivels and mulkets, carrying 30 men.

Anna Bernhard, Schnelle, Bremen, 63 days; brig Diana,
Chilfen, Copenhagen, 90 days.
December 23. Saturday arrived the (hip Minerva,
Wyvill, Gibraltar, 72 days.
December 27. Wednesday arrived the brig Charlotte
and Elizabeth, Hart, London, 60 day ‘; (hip Birmingham
Packet, Cochran, London, 62 days; brig Venus, Moul
ton, St. Übes, 70 days.

GENERAL ORDERS.
IT has been notified to the commander in chief that the
gallant old veteran, the late major general Clarke, of
Georgia, whose name ought to be so dear to this and the
United States, for his truly heroic exploits, is dead.
It is therefore required that all officers in military com
mission, belonging to this state, do wear, for one month
from the firft day of January next, a crape round the left
arm, as a token of that affeftion which the government
and military bear to his memory, for his great, patriotic,
and military exertions, during the revolutionary war.

chair, and are highly’ ornamental to the representatives
chamber; one is a reprefeutation of the battle of Quebec,
and the death of gen. Montgomery and his two aids; the
other the battle, of Bunker’s bill, r .
On Wednesday morning the 25th ult. three voung men,
viz. mr. William Hobbes, mr. George Thrcadcraft, and
mr. Bettifon, attempted to cross the swamp, (then over
flown by the frefties) to Zubly’s ferry, 111 .their way to
South Carolina. Mr. Hobbes’s horse on entering the lwamp
returned to the high ground; the other horses threw their
riders into the water; mr. Hobbes perceiving the danger
they were in immediately entered the lwamp again in order
to aflift them, towing a large piece of timber after him; he
had proceeded but a little way when he was also thrown
from his horle, and swam to a bulb, on which he remain
ed but a fliort time before he dropt into the water, and
was not Veen to rife again; by this time mr. Thrcadcraft
had lecured himlelf against the force ol the current among
logs and bullies, but standing up to the waist in water, and
mr. Bettifon had got upon the branch of a tree; in this fi
xation they continued until about 9 o'clock at night, when
they were carried out of the swamp bv two Negroes in a
canoe. Mr. Hobbes being an only child, and of a difpoli
tion that rendered him a comfort to his aged parents, their
grief on this melancholy occasion can lx- better conceived
than deferibed. His corple was found next day and in
terred.

about Savannah, or in Bryan county, as she has-a mother
and a brother at major Charles Harden’s plantation; Ihe is
well known in Chatham and Bryan counties.’ Five dollars,
