February 20. No mail arrived here on Tuesday,
Wcdnefday, or Thursday, consequently the anxious ex
peditions of our readers cannot be gratified with the im
portant and intereßing events transpiring in the federal
■ citv. We learn, however, that tlie houfe’of reprelenta
tive met on Friday the 13th, and balloted twice, the ,re
sult the fame as before, no choice of a president, and that
the house then adjourned until Monday.

La(l night arrived, Blip Iris, capt. Keakwich, 54 days
from Portfmonth.
The day after leaving Portsmouth cant. Keakwich was
boarded by the Englifli cutter brig Louisa, the captain of
which informed him that he had just received orders to
capture every Danish vessel he fell in with. I hefe orders
were luppofed to have been issued in consequence ot ac
counts having been received of the capture of ail Englifli
armed vessel by a Danish brig, and carried into St. Tho
mas’s, a few months agb.
Capt. Shotwell, of the brig Harmony, from Malaga,
has favored us with the following letter, handed him by
the American consul at Malaga.
“ Madrid, December 26. q
The change in the minißry has, as you have been
informed, takeif place; the power of the Prince of Peace
is not to be described; he is not fatisfied to have baniflied
Urquijo from the capital, but also all his friends muß leave
the town. The new minißer was appointed to go to
Naples as ambassador; he is a near relation to the Prince
of Peace.
There are different accounts of the battle of the 3d
December; it seems that the advantages of the French are
not so great as they fay; on the contrary the 4tn ana 510
December tliev have been repulfccl again; even the French
papers mention something about it. According
7000 French wounded have been brought into Munich,
and 4 French generals into Frankfort; the Austrians are
h Ingolftadt. What is.certain, the French do not fay
much about this battle. Bonaparte is going to eßabiifh a
private pcR of his own to the frontier, as fome of his letters
have been opened. Ibe Ruffians have declaied war agamfl
England; this advice has been received by a brig of war
that came cut to Gibraltar in ten days.”

Capt. Ham was with the wreck 2 days; saved the cap

Immediately sent him one calk of water, and as much
wood as 1 could spare, relieved him of iix of the men he
had taken tV6m the wreck.

By verbal information we learn that, in the month of
December laß, there were two very deflrudive tires in
London; one which dtßroyed all the buildings from the
Hermitage to the Old Wapping Stairs; the other, near
Aldgate Pump, burnt a whole square. The fires were at
tributed to accident, and not to any commotion of the
mob, as has been reported, though the people are Bill ri
otous.

The firft battalion of the Chatham regiment of militia
will parade, on Tuesday the ioth of March next, in
Johnson’s square, in tlie city of Savannah. All officers
commanding companies in the laid battalion are therefore
ordered to have their refpedlive companies paraded and
ready to form the battalion by 11 o’clock, armed and ac
coutred agreeably to law 7 .

Congress. This gentleman having lor years lerved in the

the f.'ip Louisa, dated Falmouth , (Jamaica) Fe
bruary 3.
“ 1 arrived at Falmouth in 20 days after leaving Ty
bee, with 5 feet water in the hold, and both pumps going
conftantlv for 19 days. 1 had to throw more than one
third of my cargo overboard to keep die Blip up; after
which I got to the grcateß leak, and nailed blankets and
tarpawlmgs over it to prevent the water from coining in
so taß upon us. In lat. 18. 30. n. lon. 76. 5, w. was
boarded by a French pirate; after overhauling my papers,
and finding the cargo conGfled only of ftaves, lie began to
rob me of mv provilions, unrove all the rigging that was
worth his trouble, took all the spare rigging that I had,
marline, fpunyarn, holding, Hambro’ line, pump leather,
lanterns, speaking trumpet, time glasses, and in fact every
thing he could fee wortkhis notice. I then afke4 1-im if
lie did not hear of the treaty between France and America;
he damned me for an American rafeal, and told me if I
had a good cargo of flour or rice all the treaties that they
could make should not save me, and if I laid one word
more he would set the ft.ip on fire, and put me and my
crew in the boats, which I am certain would not have
floated more than two or three times the length of the
snip. After this he took up my speaking trumpet, order
ed me tp make fail, and wiibed m? a good voyage.”

papers to the sth of January''laß, from which it appears the
king of Sweden had arrived at Peterlbnrgb, where a con
vention of the four northern powers for the maintenance of
an armed neutrality was to lie signed. Gen. Moreau’s army
had palled the Inn, anc was advancing into the heart of the
Außrian territories. The archduke Charles had taken the
command of the army of Germany. Tlfe opening of the
congrds at Luneville was announced for the sth of Janua
ry. An attempt was made or. the life of Bonaparte, on the
24th of December, as he was going to the Oratorio: A cart
loaded with,a barrel of gunpowder was placed in Rich a.
manner as to interrupt his pallage, but the coachman pas-Yd
it exceeding rapidly; the moment afterwards it exploded,
killed five persons, and wounded a number of others. The
proceedings of the Britifii parliament were concluded on the
318 of December, and on the ill of January the union of
Great Britain and Ireland commenced, when the. park and
tower guns were fired, the new Bandardj were hoifled, and
tin; bells ot tlie churches rung* ‘l'iie imperial parliament
was to meet on the 22d of January.
