London, March 25. Letters received from Egypt,
dated the 28th of January, Hate, that the beys who e

the inhabitants preferring the government of the beys to
that newly instituted by the Fu.ks, and finfce the treachery
fnanifefted by the latter they are become more than ever
attached to their old mailers. Ihe grand vizier is prepar
ing for battle, which will doubtless prove bloody, and in
all probability terminate to his’diigrace; he has little to
hope from the few Engliih w ich are lelt in that country,
even were they more partial to him. Ihe commander at
Alexandria, it is added, has denied the Turks all access
to that place.

We underftiud that, on Leclerc’s return from the leath

had no authority to recognize him as an official character.
This circumstance, together with the inefficacy of his re

leverity with which the Americans were treated, rendered
his situation too unpleasant for him to remain. Capt.
Rogers, late of the Maryland ilcop of war, and capt. Da

imprisoned by the French at the Cape, upon what cause
could not be ascertained.
The fame day the Ardent failed the Dutch fleet of 8
