MACON. GEOHGIA: FRIDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 26. ”MABION COUNTY 1 (»R SECESSION. The Columbus Times of 24th, contains the proceedings of a meeting held irrespective of party, at Buena Vista, Marion County, on the 17th, to take into consideration the threatened danger to the South. The meeting, after ap pointing a committee on resolutions,' adjourned to the 19th, when it adopted a report and reso lutions, the latter of which are as follows : Resolved, Ist. We regard the election of Abraham Lincoln t - the Presidency and Hanni bal Hamlin to the Vice Presidency, as an overt act of hostility upon the part of the North, and as a declaration of war upon the rights of the South. 2d. We recommend the people of Georgia, upon the election of Abraham Lincoln being known, to meet immediately in Convention to determine the mode and manner of redress. 3d. I u order to render our action harmonious, we recommend those who may be elected as elector- for the State of Georgia to cast the vote of Georgia for that candidate who can defeat Abraham Lincoln. The meeting was then addressed by C. H. McCall, E. W. Miller, L. Bivins, S. 11. Craw lord, Edgar M. Butts, and Thaddeus Oliver, who warmly advocated the object of the meet ing, exhorting the people to harmony and una nimity. Wm. M. Brow n then addressed the meeting, and stated, during his remarks, that he was for acquiescence upon the election of Lincoln, and waiting till “some overt act” was done by him after his election. 1 he speakers were all warmly applauded, ex cept the last The follow ing protest was then offered. The undersigned fully and freely endorse all the foregoing report of the committee, except the first resolution which declares, “That the election of Abraham Lincoln to the Presidency is an overt act of hostility to the rights of the South and a declaration of war &c. ’ Ue be lieve that the enunciations contained in that resolution are neither sound in law nor true in fact. Wm. M. Brown, John Q. Spiers, Thaddeus Oliver. DEPARTURE OF THE PRINCE. Portland, Oct. 20. To-day was a fine, bright Indian summer day. The vessels in the harbor, and public buildings, the observatory and British fleet were all finely decorated with Hags, and business was mostly suspended. At noon, a great crowd of people, together with a large number of carriages, assembled in the streets, around the Grand Trunk railway de pot to welcome the Prince to the city. A spe cial train from Boston, with the Prince and suite, cross**! the city line sit 1:40, wtuctv was announced by a national salute ol 23 guns from Biamhall hill. He was received by Mayor Howard, of this city, British Admiral Mure, Commander Se\ rnour, and other royal officers. Mayor Howard greeted the Prince with a brie! welcome, leading him immediately to his carriage, but presenting him en passant to members oi the City Council, who saluted him. The Prince raised his hat m return. The Prince rode in the Mayor's barouche, with the Mayor, Duke of New castle, and Lord Lyons. The roy al suite followed m five other carriages, escorted by the First Regiment under the command of f 01. Sweet. The procession proceeded through India, Mid dle. Free, High, Danforth, State, Congress, and Alliance streets, and Victoria wharves, which were built lor the Great Eastern, where a royal barge was awaiting his Royal Highness, and whence they embarked at 3: 15 P. M., the mil itary presenting arms. Before the Prince em barked he shook bands with Lord Lyons, the Mayor, the British Consul, and others. As the royal barge left the w harf the British squadron bred a royal salute of twenty-one gun.-, and similar salutes were tired from the city ana Fort Preble. she harbor was lull of steamers, boats, bar ges, etc., which accompanied the royal barge from the w hart —the latter being surrounded by boats iioin thero}al squadron, tilled with Brit ish officers. There was a fresh easterly breez* blowing, and the water in the harbor w as quite rough, so that ttie boats rowed quite slowly. As the flo tilla neared the royal squadron, the guards were manned, and’ those with the strings oi bunting and flags flying from every point of the fleet formed a magnificent spectacle, w hich was witnessed by an immense concourse of people. When he leached the Hero, at ten minutes before four, the royal standard was run up to the mam, and another salute was tired by the fleet; the riggingol each vessel was instantly stripped oi nuniing, anil the sailors disappeared from aloft at half past four. The squadron sailed out of the harbor, the Hero leading, followed by the Nile, Ariadne, Flying Fish, and the Styx, saluting and being sa.ulea by the fort as they passed. The Governor of this State visited the Hero yesterday, and was received with suitable honors. The officers of the royal squadron have made many acquaintances here, and evidently enjoyed themselves finely, being tendered every possible attention by our citi zens. YANCEY LN CINCINNATI. Cincinnati. Oct 21.—Mr. Yancey spoke at Pike’s Opera House, last night, to a crowded audience. The speech was generally well re ceived. To tell your secrets is generally folly but that folly is without guilt ; to communicate those with which you are intrusted is always treachery, and treachery for the most part com bined with folly. Thomas Hood died composing—and that, too, an humorous poem. He is said to have i remarked that he was dying of charity to the i undertaker, who wished to urn a lively Hood. i The influence of men is not confined to the circle of their acquaintance. It spreads on ev ery side of them, like the undulations of the smitten water, and will reach those whom thev never saw. The only fountain in the wilderness of life where man drinks of water totally unmixed with bitterness, is that which gushes for him m the calm and shady recess of domestic life, i When men by age fail in their sight and hearing, they had better console themselves > with the thought that they have seen and heard | quite enough.
