NT A CON . G !•;< >RGI A: SATURDAY" MORNING, NOVEMBER 3. The Hoy West Negroes in Trouble Yet. It seems that the “re-captured’’Africans from Key West have met with an inhospitabl recep tion from their brethren of the republic of Libe ria, that mighty power having refused to give them room and protection on the terms required by the Colonization Society. The Republic of Liberia, it seems, has a low appreciation of “niggers" and wants to collect an import duty of one hundred dollars per head. A letter in the Journal of Commerce explains it. We have never seen such a total waste and failure as this Operation of the government has resulted in: Washington, Saturday, Oct. 28. The government of Liberia has refused to re ceive the re-captured Africans who were sent to that Colony from Key West, and who were cap tured bv our cruisers and landed at Monrovia in August last. The number of Africans thus landed are about twenty-four hundred. The American Colonization Society have a contract with the government under the law of the last session, to take charge of all these Africans lor one year for the compensation of one hundred •lodars a head. The sum appropriated is whol ly insufficient to meet the contract, but of course Congress will supply the deficiency. But there is some trouble with the Liberian gov ernment, which refuses permission for the ne groes to remain in its territory, or under its pro tection. without the same compensation which the Colonization Society is to receive. The Society are to hold a meeting of its man agers, with a view to arrange this matter by Compromise if possible. They would rather, it is relinquish their entire amount of com pensation to Liberia, than that the benevolent object of the Government of the United States should be frustrated. H the negroes are turned adrift, they will perish. MILD. The recognized home organ of Abraham Lin coln is the Chicago Democrat, of which Long John Wentworth is editor. We commend to the attention of the people us the South, the fol lowing from its editorial columns: Our duties have been the more arduous dur ing the campaign in consequence of the tongue of our great champion being tied, on account of hi' being a candidate for the Presidency. Next to Abe Lincoln, the Chicago Democrat has done more for the anti-slavery cause than any other agency in the State of Illinois. We see the Dav of Jubilee coming, when millions of en franchised dares tri ll rend the leicons with their shouts; and all this unc.gr the forms of the CoMtitutionof the Union kept compacted toget her.—Chariest on Mercury, II AB II TIMES IS the nnivete.il complaint of every body engaged in bo'iness, and a# A.
