Black, white methodist
churches consider merger
FORT WORTH, Texas
(AP) Leaders ofblack and white
Methodist denominations are
looking into a merger more than
100 years after they split over
racial issues.
Under a proposal from leaders
of the four denominations, the
mostly black African Methodist
Episcopal Church, African Meth
odist Episcopal Zion Church and
Christian Methodist Episcopal
Church and the predominantly
white United Methodist Church,
would become one.

The St. Mark United Meth
odist Church (Marks Church
Rd.)is having its Annual Men’s
Day Celebration on Sunday,
May 21. The celebration is
planned for two services which
will highlight the theme Men
raising the standards to meet the
challenges of the 21st century.
The first service, focusing on
religious challenges, will be held
during the morning of May 21 at
11 a.m. at which time the pastor
of St. Mark, the Rev. Reginald
Copeland, will deliver a Special
Men’s Day Sermon. The second
service will be held at 4 p.m.
during which the speaker will be
the Rev. Lewis E. Logan, pastor
of the Turner Chapel A M.E.
Church, Atlanta, Georgia. Rev.
Logan is expected to issue some
special challenges to the men of
the church in the changing com
plexities of the looming 21st cen
tury. Special music will be ren
dered by several male choral
groups.
