Academy Award and two-time
Emmy Award-nominee Paul
Winfield (Sounder, Roots 11, and
King) leads the cast of this epic
chronicle of Driscoll Rampart,
who grudgingly comes to this
mystical planet to do his intern
ship under renowned healer
Akada and his nurse Shabana.
Arriving at Rusta during a tur
bulent period of civil war between
the Dark and Light sides, Driscoll
is quickly drawn into the lives
and conflicts of an assortment of
amazing characters: Princess
Ariel, the ethereal ruler of the
Darkside; Lieutenant Strake, the
evil leader of the Darkside forc
es; the beautiful Lady X, falsely
accused of spreading a plague on
Earth, now condemned to eter
nal life in the planet’s forbidding
prison; a mysterious creature
named Osh, warden of the pris
on, and in love with Lady X;
Never, a young boy who can “mor
ph” into any shape and appear
ance; and twins XaXa and XuXu,
one of whom looks 12 years old,
while the other resembles a
wizened old woman, due to the
effects of a mysterious virus.
During his stint at this exotic
place, Driscoll learns how little
hetruly knows. On thislush plan
et with a red sea and a desert of
“dreaming sands,” whose skies
arefilled with metal spheres that
control the weather, he watches
Akada not only give life, but
mercifully take it away. As the
magical world of Rusta, watched
over by the spiritual icon of The
Two Ladies, is revealed to
Driscoll, he learns, for the first
time, about life and death — and
in so doing, comes to terms with
his own painful past.

Met at the door by a sinister
