ACP kicks off 1995-96 membership
drive with peek of upcoming season
Theatre goers everywhere are
invited to the Aiken Community
Playhouse for SNEAK PEAK
SATURDAY on August 19.
From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.,
anyone interested in becoming a
member can meet the board, view
the facility and pick up tickets.
Drawings for gift baskets will
be held for those whojoin ACP. A
B'xß’xl2' barn style portable
building and tickets to the Sen
sational Swing Dance at the
Wilcox Inn will be raffled off.
“Love” is the theme for this
‘King of the Hill’ Triathlon at Fort
The King of the Hill Triathlon
and a5-milerun will be held at the
Fort Gordon Recreation Area on
Saturday, August 19 beginning at
8:30a.m. Thetriathlon includes a
.75-mile swim, a 20-mile bike ride
and a 5-mile run. Awards will be
presented to the overall top five
finishers in the triathlon and run
aswell aswinnersinother catego

Travel Careers
program offered by
ATC continuing
education
The continuing education of
fice of Aiken Technical College is
offering six courses that can lead
toacareerinthetravel industry.
The Travel Careers program is
designed to ensure that students
receive the most practical, up-to
date information available on
today’s travel industry trends,
according to Varina Haney, pro
gram coordinator.
“This program is perfect for
those who love to travel, or plan
ning trips,” Mrs. Haney said. “In
Jjustsixmonths a person can com
plete this program and be ready
for a new career,” she said.
A certificate will be awarded to
students who complete the six
core courses: Beginning Travel,
Advanced Travel, World Travel
Geography, Cruises, Travel
Agency Computer Systems, and
a 20-hour internship in an area
travel agency.
The Travel Careers program is
offered for the new travel con
sultant and as a refresher course
for the experienced travel agent.

year’s membership drive. The
Member’s Appreciation Show for
this year, Love Letters, will be
presented at 8:00 p.m. August 25
and 26 and at 3:00 p.m. Augusta
27. This show is free to anyone
who buys a season membership
before or during the run of the
show. There will be a drawing
for gifts at each performance.
Several facility improvements
will also debut this season. Rest
rooms have been completely re
modeled and are handicapped
accessible, and the stage will have
the Fort Gordon gymnasiums, the
Fitness Center and the Indoor
Pool. The triathlon is open to the

make the facility better for the
theatre-going population” says
Marcia Harris, ACP President.
Several noteworthy accom
plishments were realized by the
ACP last season. There were
over 600 season members, an all
time high, and the production of
Pygmalion had the largest at
tendance ofany non-musical play
in ACP history. “Hope this sea
son brings the same success as
last year,” states Marcia.
The mainstage plays scheduled
es are $25, $35 and $45. Spaces
will also be on sale in the Officers’
Club Grotto Room during the fol
lowingtimes: September9and 16
from 9:00 a.m. to noon and Sep
tember 11 - 15 and 21 - 22 from
9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Flea

Dr. Dennis E. McDonnell, Act
ing Chief of the Medical College
of Georgia Section of
Neurosurgery for the past year,
has been named Chief of the sec
tion.
Dr. McDonnell’s academic ca
reer included faculty appoint
ments at the University of lowa
Hospitals, the Uniformed Ser
vices University of Health Sci
ences and Walter Reed Army
Medical Center before he joined
the MCG faculty in 1984.
He is a 1962 graduate of
Creighton University School of
Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska,
who completed his neurosurgery
training at the University of
Cynthia Williams honored
The Georgia Clients Council,
Inc. is pleased to announce that
Mrs. Cynthia Lynch-Williams,
Augusta Regional Chairperson
for the Augusta Georgia Clients
Council, Inc., was recognized for
herachievements at their recent
state conference held at the
Sheraton Hotel on July 21 - 23.
Mrs. Lynch-Williams received
the 1995 Georgia Clients Coun
cil's Service Award for her dem
onstrated commitment to the
empowerment of low income peo
ple. In addition, she accepted

Mr. Friedheim was formerly

country (November 1994). He has
20 years’ experience in the tele
vision industry, and will be relo
