Newton completes
ITRP program

Augusta, Ga., recently complet
éd the Institute for Television,
Film and Radio Production
(ITRP) program held this sum
mer at Boston University’s Col
lege of Communication.
¢ Newton, the son of Herbert and
Vivian Newton of West Terrace
Court, will be a senior at
Davidson Fine Arts Magnet
School in the fall.
i ITRPis anintensive five-week
program for high-school students
interested in careers in televi
sion, film, broadcast journalism,
and radio production and pro
gramming. The program offers
fiands-on workshop instruction
in writing, editing, producing,
directing, camera operation,
sound, programming and other
aspects of the broadcast indus
try. Students are instructed by
genior faculty from the College of
Communication.
i Boston University is the third
fargest independent university
in the United States, with an
énrollment of more than 29,000
dtudents in its 15 schools and
éolleges. The College of Commu
nication is one of the leaders in
i:ts field, with more than 2,000
students enrolled in its under
draduate and graduate pro
grams.
New post exchange
at Fort Gordon
{ A groundbreaking ceremony
for the new post exchange shop
fing complex will be held August
29 at 8 a.m. on 3rd Avenue at
filort Gordon.
i The shopping center is being
built at a cost of $8.6 million with
tte money coming from sales at
the post exchange.
The new exchange will have
,000 square feet of space. The
cprrent facility, which was built
in 1968 and expanded three
tfl‘mes, has 49,000 square feet of
space.
|The new facility will have a
food court and a store, all in an
enclosed area.
The post exchange is for hold
ets of military identification
cards.
This is the second annual event,
an unusual community event
that brings out the good will and
camaraderie between soldiers
and the citizens of Augusta.
Teams of runners begin running
at 10:00 a.m. on September 9th
and continue to run non-stop
until 10:00 on September 10th,
rain or shine. The event will
take place at Fort Gordon, Geor
gia at the 440 yard track on
