400 wins for Robinson
B After 53 years of coaching and never
missing a game, the fabled Grambling
Tigers coach wins number 400.
GRAMBLING, LA
Legendary Grambling State University Head Coach Eddie Robinson
secured his 400th victory with a 42-6 win over Mississippi Valley State
on Saturday, October 17. Robinson started the season with 398 victories
and the tension mounted as he was denied number 399 on two previous
tries.
“I could dance a little tonight,” Robinson said after posting the record
shattering win. “I cried all day. I cried on the field before the game. 1
thought I was all cried out. When things like this happen, you have to
show some kind of feelings,” Robinson said.
After the game he received a call from President Bill Clinton.
“I'm proud of you,” President Clinton told him. “What’s even more
amazing is that you never missed a game. The American people are

Mid-eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) football standings. Both are 2-
oin conference action, but B-CC dropped
a 35-33 decision at Norfolk State to fall
to 2-3 overall.
Saturday was NCA&T’s initial MEAC
test this season, and has now lost three
consecutive games after opening the
season with two wins.
Also on Saturday, South Carolina
State (3-2 overall) took advantage of its
first MEAC opportunity with a 31-19
victory at Morgan State. Morgan fell to
0-2 in the league and 1-4 overall.

Hampton outscored Delaware State 51-
21. (Delaware State has yet to play a
conference game and dropped to 1-4).
Hampton, though 4-2 overall, is not
eligible for the MEAC because this is
their first season in the conference.
The teams are jockeying for position,
not only for the MEAC title, but in
hopes of post-season play as well. At

Virginia State record

Tops in the conference in
total offense and second in to
tal team defense, the Virginia
State Trojans remain unde
feated in CIAA play.
On Saturday, Virginia State
(4-0, 5-1) mauled Cheyney, 81-
9.The Trojans were never chal
lenged as they rolled up 33
points before the first Cheyney
score.
Rodney Granger completed
18 passes for 349 yards and
three touchdowns and Bo Mor
gan rushed for 89 yards on 19
carries and scored 4 touch
downs to lead all scorers.
Virginia State receiver Fred
Lanier had six receptions for a
total of 159 yards including
three touchdowns. His longest
reception was for 53 yards.
Virginia State is expected to
preserve their undefeated
status when the match-up
with winless Fayetteville (0-
3-2) this Saturday.

Update
Elizabeth City State (5-1,
5-1) whipped Virginia Union
(0-2-2, 0-3-2), 48-20, to re
main in second place.
The Panther defense held
Aaron Murchison to 69
yards rushing and two
touchdowns on 18 carries.
Murchison came into the
game averaging 104 yards
rushi.:g per game.
Kelvin Johnson ran in from 6 yards
with 10:11 left.
Then, to add insult toinjury, Howard
fumbled on his two-point conversion
attempt, but the ball popped out and
wasrecovered in the end zone by Willie
Clark, a 6-foot-3, 320-pound sopho
more offensive lineman for Miles, and
the Golden Bears held a commanding
28-7 lead.
Things didn’t get much better for
Morris Brown. They managed just
three more points and lost their start
ing quarterback.
Miles rolled to an easy victory.
