ALLTEL Mobile offers expanded coverage area
LITTLE ROCK, Ark.
ALLTEL Mobile Communica
tions, Inc. has announced an ex
pansion of its coverage areas,
merging the footprints of its Au
‘gusta and Savannah systems.
The combination of the two sys
tems will provide customers with
more than 15,000 square miles
of coverage, stretching from
north of Aiken, S.C., south to the
Florida state line.
i The expanded footprint will
allow customers’ package min
utes and service features to ap
ply throughout the company’s
Aiken/Augusta and Savannah
service areas. The enlarged sys
tem will also enable customers to
make toll-free long-distance calls
to anywhere within the expand
ed local coverage area.
The expansion allows custom
calling features — such as

' The Department of Energy’s
(DOE) Savannah River Opera
tions Office (SR) achieved a sig
nificant milestone recently when
notified that 15 of the Site’s per
formance-based training pro
grams were awarded accredita
tion following a stringent review
process. A DOE accreditation
board visited SR last week to
independently validate the qual
ity and effectiveness of the train
ing programs.
The DOE Accreditation Pro
gram is sponsored by the Assis
tant Secretary for Environment,
Safety and Health. The DOE
training accreditation process is
structured after a commercial
nuclear industry model that pro
vides an independent, objective
validation of training and quali
fication programs and serves to
enhance worker, public and en
vironmental safety. The accred

home coverage area.

provides our customers with a
750-percent increase in cover
age area — an additional 12,000
square miles,” said Don
Bargeron, general manager of
ALLTEL Mobile’s Augusta mar
ket. “Our customers have told us
they wanted to be able to take
advantage of ALLTEL Mobile’s
extensive cellular systemsin the
area,and they wanted their pack
age minutes to apply in those
areas.”

ed tasks, knowledge and skills
required for competent and safe
job performance:

coverage area includes 33 coun
ties in Georgia and South Caro
lina. Key cities included in the
coverage are Aiken, S.C., Augus
ta, Warrenton, Waynesboro,
Sardis, Louisville, Sylvania,
Swainsboro, Savannah,
Statesboro, Vidalia, Jesup,
Waycross, Brunswick, St. Simons
Island and Jekyll Island.
