A day of fund raising for Augusta
College slated for Oct. 17
College officials are hopeful
that on Tuesday, Oct. 17, com
munity awareness of Augusta
College will be raised as the sec
ond annual “A Day for Augusta
College” kicks off a day of
fundraising and friend-raising.
Augusta College plays an impor
tant role in the community of
Augusta; besides being the pri
mary comprehensive public in
stitution of higher learning in
the second largest metropolitan
area in Georgia, its roots go deep
intothe community, having been
founded at Richmond Academy
in 1925. ;
A full day of events will cele
brate the occasion: ‘
- 7:30 a.m. - Breakfast for vol
unteers in Galloway Hall.
- 9:00 a.m. - President William
A. Bloodworth, Jr. will ascend in
a hot-air balloon to “launch” the
effort that will send about 100
volunteers into the community

Shepeard Community Blood
Center continues to experience a
critical shortage of all types of
blood. The following is a list of
upcoming blood drives:
- Oct. 15, Sunday - St. Joseph
Catholic Church, 9:00 a.m. - 1:30
p.m. in Lourd’s Hall.
- Oct. 16, Monday - SRS Blood
Drive (A-area), 8:00 a.m. - 3:00
p.m. in bloodmobile.
- Oct. 17, Tuesday - SRS Blood
Drive (A-area), 8:00 a.m. - 3:00
p.m. in bloodmobile.
- Oct. 18, Wednesday - SRS
Blood Drive (H-area), 8:00 a.m. -
3:00 p.m. in bloodmobile.
- Oct. 19, Thursday - Universi
ty Hospital, 12:00 - 4:30 p.m. in
the bloodmobile parked at the
Professional Day Surgery build
ing.
- Oct. 20, Friday - SRP Federal
Credit Union, 8:30 a.m. - 12:00
p.m. in the bloodmobile parked
at the main office in Aiken.
Shepeard is contracted to sup
ply all of the blood products for
University Hospital, St. Joseph
Hospital, Augusta Regional Med
ical Center, Aiken Regional Med
ical Centers, Edgefield County
Hospital and Wills Memorial
Hospital in Washington, GA.
Hundreds of pints are also sup
plied every month to MCG, the
VA Medical Center and
Eisenhower Army Medical Cen
ter.

camp at May Park
The Augusta Drive ofthe Amer
ican Major Basketball League
(AMBL) will hold a free agent
camp Oct. 14 and 15 at May Park
Community Center.
-Three sessions are planned for
all participants beginning at 10
a.m. Saturday, followed by a 6
p.m. session. The camp will con
clude with a 10 a.m. Sunday ses
sion and the Drive will open its
initial AMBL training camp that
night.
. Players interested in the free
agent camp should contact the
Drive office at (706) 724-5512 for
complete details no later than
Friday, Oct. 13. All players must
be pre-approved and registered.
No players will be allowed to
compete without meeting the
advance registration require
ment.
Golden Harvest
Food Bank will hold
a yard sale
The Advisory Board and mem
ber agencies of Golden Harvest
Food Bank will hold a yard sale
Saturday, Oct. 14, at Marvin
United Methodist Church in
Martinez. The proceeds of the
yard sale will go directly to the
agencies who are on the front
lines serving those in need.
Past yard sales have been a
great success and it is anticipat
ed that this one will be better
than ever. There will be house
hold items, clothing, arts and
crafts, and snacks available. The
action will start at 8:30 a.m. and
will be held in the parking lot at
the corners of Wheeler and Belair
Roads in Martinez.
