EpiToriaL INOTES
In the forever changing world of this
global economy where American jobs are
being exported; the downsizing of
corporations, where in the past, workers
(blue collar and white collar) could count
on a "relationship [job] for life" with their
employer, and where, today, it appears
that the “"caring of the worker" is not part of
the equation in the American workplace,
we begin this month alook at the American
worker, and in particular the historic role
Blacks have played in the American labor
movement.
This coupled with the fact that our buying
habits--as Black consumers--have a
tremendous economic impact on our own
communities, our careers overall and
America as a whole, the SCLC-originated
campaign of "buy from those who keep
Black America working" has never been
more important, as examples for ouryouth,
our community and our nation.

This month, we also present the last
segment of the October issue's
presentation on 'The Mis-education of
African Americans."

We also highlight AOIP's goal #9 which
simply states that African Americans have
proportionate bargaining positions in all
* The letters AQIP originally stood for Assault On llliteracy Program--a networking and coordinating framework for assaulting the root causes of illiteracy
(i.e., lack of self-esteem and self-efficacy). However, two things were soon recognized. One thing recognized was that, whenever these root causes were
assaulted, we simultaneously were engaged in a process for assaulting almost allthe otherills imposed most heavily on the Black community (i.e., drugs,
other crimes, needless forms of welfare, teen pregnancy, etc.). The other thin%recognized was thatitwas impossible to assault illiteracy at its core among
many Black Americans without simultaneously addressing those other ills. That is when the amazing and long-needed Goals for The Year 2000 and
Beyond (see page 10) were developed, and the name changed to Assault On llliteracy Process, or simply AOIP.
The National BLACK MONITOR is the official national interorganizational magazine
of AOIP,* a focus of Community Motivators, Inc. in extending the
NCNW, Pan-Hellenic and Fraternal networking concept.
