Aiken man
arrested for
sexual assauit
A Beech Island man was ar
rested Tuesday, August 13 in
connection with a sexual assault
of an Aiken County woman.
Steve Welsh Conder 111, 24, of
109 Wise Drive, Lot 2, is charged
with criminal sexual conduct,
first degree.
Aiken County Sheriffs Office
reports said Mr. Conder followed
the woman toa bedroom and
allegedly sexually assaulted her.
He then left the home, but was
seen in nearby woods shortly af
ter.
The subject surrendered and
was transported to the Aiken
County Detention Center.
Youths nabbed
in drug bust
Columbia County Sheriff’s Of
fice arrested two Martinez men
on various marijuana, cocaine
and gun charges.
William Dean Peel, 17, of 811
Merrico Street, and Alonzo
Parham,2l,of 109 Red Bud Lane,
were apprehended Tuesday,
around 11:23 p.in. following un
dercover investigations.
About a pound of marijuana
was seized, along with seven
grams of cocaine, $2,571 cash
and a .40-caliber Ruger semi
automatic handgun.
Mr. Parham was nabbed on
gun possession charges.

Elderly woman
repels mobile
robbery try
An Augusta woman wasn'’t in
timidated when a man walked
up to her car — while she was in
traffic — and demanded money.
Ruth Knapp, 64, said a white
male with blond hair aimed a
spray can (possibly mace) at her
driver’s side window and de
manded money. After refusing
to give up the cash, the woman
slammed the can against the
man’s face and sped off.
The suspect then got into his
car, described as an older model,
primer gray Mustang. The sus
pectisslenderand was not wear
ing a shirt. He had on gray pants
with a baseball cap.

Thieves hit
Christian
school for
light set
A $1,400 video light set was
stolen from the Alleluia Chris
tian Service Center, 2333 Ruby
Drive, Augusta.
Richmond County Sheriff’s
Department investigations re
vealed that unknown burglars
broke a window lock to steal the
equipment. No arrests were
made.
