for the flight home. Dr. Lucid
reached her 169th day in space
on September 7th, the most
amount of time in space by any
female on a single flight.
Several experiments conduct
ed on the STS-79 shuttle mis
sion included human life scienc
es, advanced technology,
microgravity, Earth sciences,
fundamental biology and space
sciences.
Atlantis and Mir exchanged
the largest amount of material
on ashuttle mission todate when
they docked. The shuttle trans
ferred 4,600 pounds of water,
food and other resupply items as
well as research hardware and
equipment. Mir turned over
2,200 pounds of Russian, Euro
pean Space Agency and U.S. sci
ence hardware and samples for
return to Earth.
