TV show reveals just one of Jackie
Boatwright’s multiple talents

Like a star on the horizon, you
might say Jacqueline Boatwright'’s
beam is about to appear.
Havinglivedin Augusta for less
than a year, Jacqueline (pro
nounced/ack-Leen)ison thebrink
of exposing her true talents to the
local region.
While her professional people
oriented skills are honed daily as
an account associate with Geor
gia Personnel Services, Inc., area
TV viewers now have a chance to
witness at least one of Miss
Boatwright's multiple talents.
The Jackie Boatwright Show
airs Wednesdays at 7 p.m. on
WBEK-TV channel 19 (cable) or
channel 67 (non-cable). WBEK is
Augusta’s Warner Brothers affili
ate.
“This is something I visualized
‘doing since I was about nine,” said
the Millen, Ga. native. Her guest
lineups have included Steve
Harvey, Tom Joyner and singer
-Gina Thompson. Local perform
ers will also appear, she said.
Though she’srelatively short in
years, Ms. Boatwright'sname has
alreadyreached international pro
portions.
After earning Miss Black
America Georgia status in 1991,
Jackie would find herself in the

herself interviewed on national
shows like BET’sOur Voices, Hard
Copy, The Maury Pauvich Show
and the Montel Williams show.
She’s also appeared in Jet maga
zine, the London Times and the
Esquire Models of Chicago. The
fashion show will reflect the cur
rent styles of American and Eu
ropean designers, and will also
spotlight new fashions by young
African-American couturiers.

“Things happen for a reason,”
said Jackie, in response to her
unexpected hoist into the national
spotlight. “I took advantage of my
opportunity to see how TV pro
ductionreally works. Ididn’thave
much time, so I absorbed lots --
and quickly,” said the East Geor
gia College graduate.
Beneath the umbrella of JAB
Productions, Inc., The Jackie
Boatwright Show already hasties
with historically black collegeslike
Paine College and Morehouse
College. The show may start tour
ing similar campuses in which
students are the studio audience.
Having already achieved TV
success with a similar show that
airedin Savannah, Jackie’s sights
are still skyward.
Ultimately, she plans to fully uti
lize her othertalents, which include
singing, moderndance,songwriting,
acting and modeling.
“It'simportant to use God’s gifts.
Ifyou find something you love, it’s
also nice to make a living doing it.
I've always wanted to do this --
and I'm doing it,” she modestly
said with a smile.

Disaster preparedness
exercise scheduled for Oct. 6
A full-scale (multiple) disaster
preparedness exercise will be
conducted on Thursday, October
10, 1996 at the Augusta-Rich
mond County Civic Center.
Moulage (injury makeup ap
plication) will begin at 6 a.m. and
the exercise will begin at 8:30
a.m. with approximately 50 simu
lated victims (“injured in an At
lanta terrorist bombing”) arriv
ing at Bush Field Airport for
transport to six local hospitals.
(For safety purposes, Bush Field
Airport will be simulated to be
located in the Civic Center park
ing lot).
At 9 a.m., an explosion occurs
in the Civic Center during a
crowded hockey game, causing
approximately 150 casualties, as
well as a fire. Debris from he
explosion blocks 7th Street, caus
ing additional concern for emer
gency response units.
At 9:05 a.m., it is discovered
