Graham Thomas Chipperfield displays cool courage as one of his maghnificent 500-pound lions bounds overhead in the world premier engagement of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Heart Ball will be held Feb. 14th . Volunteers for the Richmond/ Columbia County Division of the American Heart Association have announced plans for the 1997 Heart Ball, to be held at the Radisson Riverfront Hotel on Fri day, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. . Thisyear’sevent will againbe a celebration of the tireless efforts of those physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers in our community who wage battle daily against heart disease and stroke. This year’s ball will be in memory of one of medicine’s finest physi cians, Dr. Harry T. Harper Jr., who passed away in August of 1996. Dr. Harper was a founder and past president of the Ameri can Heart Association in Georgia, the first cardiologist in Georgia, maintained a private practice at University Hospital and was per sonal physician to President Dwight D. Eisenhower when he was in Augusta. While such demolitions are rou tinearound the world, thisinvolved a structure in close proximity to operating nuclear facilities. Near by, Westinghouse operates F Can yon to stabilize nuclear materials left over from the Cold War days of chemical processing. All safety pre ‘cautions were taken. This demolition was the last phase in a three-year project to remove obsolete facilities used dur ing the 1950 s to produce tritium, a vital component of nuclear weap ons. The project will be completed in March. The location, in F Area near the center of the site, was last used for processing in 1958. These were the first*regular, weapons-material ction facilities at SRS. They longer served any purpose.
