Local restaurant owner living out
his dream at Seafood Palace
by Miranda Gastiaburo
AUGUSTA FOCUS Staff Writer
Shawn Thomas, of Aiken, S.C.
and owner of Seafood Palace res
taurant, has realized his dream.
Seafood Palace, located in
Clearwater on the Aiken-Augusta
Highway, was that dream.
“Owning arestaurant was some
thing I always wanted todo. It was
always in the back of my mind,”
said Thomas.
He first started this business by
opening a fish market in
Graniteville, S.C. “It took me three
yearstodecide todoit, but I finally
closed down my fish markets and
moved tothe one large location on
the highway,” said Thomas. “I had
a recipe that tasted like nobody
else’s, so I decided to go for it.”
Seafood Palace serves a variety
of fresh seafood from the coasts of
Florida and North Carolina, pre
pared from Shawn’s own special
recipes.
“Being on the Aiken-Augusta
highway has been great for the
restaurant. Some 50,000 plus cars
drive by here each day, so people
often just stumble onto uslike you
stumble onto any fast food restau
rant along a drive,” Thomas said.
“Plus we have a tremendously
strong regular-customerbase.”
Thomas’ dream began because
his father was in the restaurant
business 40 or 50 years ago.
Seafood Palace is a dream come
true for Thomas, whois a father of
three, and recently engaged to
Deanna Brown (daughterof James
