Oxendine applauds church arson bill
Insurance Commissioner John
W. Oxendine said he is giving the
full support of his office to abill that
stiffens the penalties for anyone
found guilty of burning a church,
synagogue or any public place of
worship.
Commissioner Oxendine ap
plauded the sponsors of House Bill
485 for their efforts. The bill was
sponsored by Rep. Barbara Bunn
(R-Conyers), Lynn Westmoreland
(R-Tyrone), Anne Mueller (R-Sa
vannah), Ralph Johnston (R-
Duluth), and Mitchell Kaye (R-
Marietta).
“Burning a religious house of
worship is not just merely the de
struction of a building. It often
results in the tearing down of the
heart of a community. That’s why
thislegislation is soimportant and
why my office fully backsit,” Com
missioner Oxendine said.
The legislation seeks toraise the
penalty of anyone convicted of ar-
