U.S. Army
increases
college fund
by Leslie Ann Sully
Army public affairs specialist
The Army announces the new
Army College Fund, an increase
from $30,000 to $40,000 paid to
qualified enlistees for additional
education. Soldiers who enlist for
the Army College Fund can receive
up to $40,000 for college or other
types of education advancement.
“It’s a great way to gain experience
and earn money for school at the
same time,” said Lt. Col. E.A.
MacGuire, commander of U.S.
Army Recruiting Battalion in Co
lumbia, S.C. “A lot of employers
look for both education and experi
ence and by joining the Army and
enlisting with the Army College
Fund, a person can have both
items,” she continued.
The new Army College Fund
amounts are $40,000 for a four
yearenlistment, s33,ooofora three
year enlistment and $26,500 for a
two-year enlistment.
When the person completes his
or her tour of duty, they enroll in
the college of their choice and re
ceive monthly payments. Since col
lege costs areincreasing and many
sources for funding college educa
tion have declined, the Army Col
lege Fund should be considered by
all young people who desire educa
tion beyond high school.
Tofind out more about the Army
College Fund, contact your local
Army recruiter or call 1-800-USA
