Sesame Street Live returns to
the Bell Auditorium in Augusta for
three fun-filled performances of
Let’s Be Friends. It’s the happiest
of stories as Elmo and Zoe start an
exclusive friendship club only to
find thateveryone on Sesame Street

Performances are Tuesday, May
6, at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, May

is far worse than his bite. Asmuch
as he loves serving up laughs and
stirring up trouble, Martin’s real

the only one who can keep Martin
in check, Gina is his perfect coun
terpart— providing the “yin” to
Martin’s “yang.” The Paynes often
are found hanging out with their

Special stamp
cancellation held
at local temple
In cooperation with the USPS,
Congregation Children of Israel,
3005 Walton Way Extension, will
become the Wallenberg Memorial
Station on Sunday, May 4. The
Post Office will sell their new
Wallenberg 32 cent stamp, to be
issuedon April 22, with this special
branch cancellation. The Post Of
fice booth will be open from 12 noon
until 3 p.m.
The stamp sale and commemo
rative cancellation are being held
in conjunction with the temple’s
annual Yom Hashoah commemo
ration activities to be held on May
4th. Movies and other events will
be held from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The series has been unique in
highlighting a variety of memo
rable characters, all of which have
beenbrilliantly played by Lawrence,
including Sheneneh, his feisty,
know-it—all neighbor across the
hall; Otis, an overweight, no—non
sense security guard; Momma
Payne, Martin’s old-fashioned
country mother; Roscoe, the young,
bratty neighbor; and Jerome, a
street—slick, neighborhood friend
forever stuck in the 70s.
Throughout its run, MARTIN
has earned two NAACP Image
Awards, having been selected in
1993 as Best New Television Series
and 1994 for Outstanding Comedy
Series. Lawrence also was chosen
as the recipient of the 1994 and
1996 NAACP Image Awards for
Outstanding Actor in a Comedy
Series,and Tichina Arnold received
the same award in 1995 for Out
standing Supporting Actressina
Comedy Series. Additionally, the
show garnered a 1993 People’s
Choice Award for Best New Com
edy Series. Samm-Art Williams
