Metro Yard Sale!!!
Augusta Urban Ministries will hold its annual yard sale
on Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m. until 12 noon.
Throughout the year, the ministry is donated thousands
of items from homes around the CSRA. The items that
cannot immediately service the poor are stored and sold
at this once a year event. The money is used to help the
ministry. Help us and catch a great deal!!! We are
located downtown at 303 Hale St., across from the
fairgrounds.

@ Good Shepherd Church will be holding their annual Deacon
ess Fellowship Program on Sunday, May 18, at 5 p.m. The speaker
will be Sis. Bettieanne Hart. The church will also hold a revival on
May 19-23, 1997, at 6:30 p.m. nightly. Rev. J.E. Hightower will be
the guest lecturer, Rev. George Weaver the guest revivalist. Rev.
Clarence Moore is pastor.
B First Baptist Church and Trinity-on-the-Hill Methodist
Church are co-sponsoring a student-led Columbia County bacca
laureate service on Sunday, May 18, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist
Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way. The service will feature
music by several of the students and a sermon by Dr. David Jones
of Trinity-on-the-Hill. For more information, contact Rev. Scott
Parrish of Trinity at (706) 738-8822.
B The Augusta Christian Unity Council, a newly organized
group composed of clergy and lay persons from many different
denominations, will gather together for a great Pentecost Christian
Unity Prayer Service. The event will be held on Sunday, May 18, at
7 p.m. at the Paine College Gilbert-Lambuth Chapel on Druid Park
Avenue. The speaker will be Rev. Dr. Timothy Owings, pastor of
First Baptist Church. A 100-voice choir composed of choirs from
participating churches will render the music.
@ Greater Young Zion Baptist Church, 516 Forsythe St., will hold
their 13th Pastoral Appreciation Program of their pastor, Rev.
William B. Blount, on Sunday, May 18, at 4 p.m. Special guest
speaker will be Rev. Dr. Eddie Smith Sr. of the Macedonia Baptist
Church in Macon, Ga. Morning service at 7:30 a.m. will be led by
Rev. Gregory Young. Sunday school will begin at 9:30 a.m. and Rev.
Andrew Carr will lead a service at 10:45 a.m.
B The Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 1930 Olive Rd., will
celebrate its 67th church anniversary on Sunday, May 25, at 3 p.m.
Rev. Bennie Brinson and the St. James Baptist Church of Twin City,
Ga. will be in charge of the services. Rev. R.E. Donaldson is pastor.
B Macedonia Baptist Church, 1828 Wrightsboro Rd., has free
clothing for those in need. The Clothes Closet hours of operation are
11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturdays. For additional information, please
contact Ms. Candy Katz at 737-6834 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday
and Saturday).
B The Friendly Church of God in Christ, 1115 Carrie St., will
be serving a weekly meal to anyone in the Laney-Walker Blvd. area
who is hungry. The church will serve meals every Wednesday from
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Elder Leroy James is pastor.
B Maranatha Christian Center, 400 Warren Rd., offers an 8
a.m. communion service, 9 and 10:30 a.m. early worship services, a
12:15 a.m. gospel “camp meeting” service, a 5 p.m. school of the Holy
Spirit and a 7 p.m. arts and drama in worship service. A nursery is
always provided.
