trial Council, which honors a
freshman representative who
shows the greatest willingness to
battle excessive regulations and
taxation honored Rep. Norwood
as the 995 recipient of the Fight
ing Frost Award. He also received
national attention for his reform
efforts, of OSHA in particular,
through features in Time Maga
zine, the Washington Post, CNN,
the National Journal and others.
A former dentist, Rep. Norwood
served as president of the Georgia
Dental Association in 1983. He
also served as a captain in the
U.S. Army from 1967-69, which
included a tour in Vietnam with
the 173rd Airborne Brigade where
he was awarded the Combat Medic
Badge and two Bronze stars.
A native of Valdosta, Rep.
Norwood graduated from Baylor
Military High School in Chatta
nooga. He earned degrees at Geor
gia Southern University and
Georgetown University Dental
School in Washington, D.C., where
he was elected president of the
student body his senior year.
Rep. Norwood has been mar
ried to the former Gloria
Wilkinson of Valdosta since 1962,
and they have two sons and two
grandchildren. They livein Evans
and are members of Trinity-on
the-Hill United Methodist
Church.
