the Sidbury’s so when new ideas
and concepts are formed, it's a
family decision. They involve them
selves in public service ideas, such
as taking inner city kids for rides,
who may not have the means
for an experience like that oth
erwise. The Sidburys feel grate
ful and fortunate for what they
have and plan to help others

Avery Villines was hired re

The Family Y. She supervises all
aquatics programs at The Fami
ly Y's Indoor Aquatics center,
two outdoor pools and two sum
mer camps on Lake Thurmond.
Ms. Villines previously served as
Health Promotion and Sports
Director for the YWCA of Macon,
Georgia.
YWCA of CSRA disaffiliated
by national organization
The Young Women’s Christian
Association of the Central Savan
nah River Area (YWCA of the
CSRA) was notified recently of its
disaffiliation by the YWCA of the
U.S. The national YWCA's action
was taken in response to the cre
ation of The Family Y, a partner
ship of the YMCA and YWCA of
the CSRA. Our local YWCA was
informed that the partnership vio
lated the constitution and bylaws
of the YWCA of the U.S. The na
tional YWCA stated that, in merg
ing with the metropolitan Augusta
YMCA, the YWCA of the CSRA
was no longer, “part of a separate,
autonomous women’s organiza
tion.” Other constitutional viola
tions cited were the merging of
assets and adoption of The Family
Y Mission, “a mission different

two years of intense discussion and
planning. When the YWCA of the
CSRA made the decision to enter
intoa partnership with the YMCA,
we were aware that disaffiliation
was probable. However, we felt
that the advantage of the partner
ship, both for the founding organi
zations and for our community,
outweighed those of affiliation with
the YWCA of the U.S. Our YWCA
has provided vital, relevant pro
grams for area women and their
families for 87 years. We will con
tinue this tradition of service, op
eratingnow asthe YoungWomen'’s
Christian Organization, a full and
equal partner in The Family Y.”
