Imperial Theatre director
announces resignation
Norman Easterbrook, executive
director of Augusta’s Imperial
Theatre, announced his resigna
tion recently. Easterbrook has
been selected as director of the
Rylander Theatre and Cultural
Authority in Americus, Georgia.
Easterbrook has been director
of the Imperial Theatre for the
past seven years. During his ten
ure, the Imperial saw a substan
tial increase in attendance, num
ber of performances and events as
well as private and foundation sup
port for the renovations of the the
atre which are currently under
way.
- While in Augusta, Easterbrook
served on the advisory boards of
ghe Senior Citizens Council and
t. Stephen’s Ministry. He wason
the boards of the Augusta Child
Advocacy Center, Main Street
Augusta, the Leadership Augusta
Adult Class Committee, and the
South Carolina Arts Presenter
Network. Easterbrook is the fi
nance chairand president-elect for
the Unitarian Universalist Church
Sci-fi stars set for Vulkon
‘Atlanta convention
* Vulkon Productions, Inc. will
hold a sci-fi convention in Atlanta,
Ga.,May 22-24, at the Holiday Inn
Marietta. Special guests will in
clude: Ethan Phillips, “Neelix” of
Star Trek: Voyager; Robin
Downes, “Byron” of Babylon 5;
and Paramount’s Penny Juday,
art coordinator for Alien and Star
Trek: Deep Space Nine.
* Besides the featured question/
answer sessions with the stars,
the convention will consist of
autographing by the stars, panels,
video room, charity auctions, a
Saturday night dance and costume
contest, and Rocky Horror. Video
-and still photography will be per
wmitted. Friday night activities from
7 p.m. on will be free to the public.
Saturday hours will beginat9a.m.
and Sunday hours willbe 9a.m. to
6 p.m.

Grassroots Arts Program Advisory
Panel for the Greater Augusta Arts
Council and the Performing Arts
Presenter Panel of the Georgia
Council for the Arts.
In his new position, Easterbrook
will oversee the final stages of the
four million dollar renovation of
the Rylander Theatre in Americus,
Georgia. The Rylander was built
in 1921 and was designed by the
same architect that designed the
interior of the Imperial Theatre,
C.K. Howell. When complete the
Rylander will be fully restored to
its original 1921 interior and will
be equipped with state of the art
production facilities. The Cultural
Authority will be the producing
agency for three seasonal produc
tions. The prisoner of war drama,
“And Grace Will Lead me Home,”
a production based on the life of
former president Jimmy Carter,
and “The Rylander Follies,” a pro
duction based upon the early years
of entertainment in the Rylander
Theatre.
Admission at the door will be
S2O per day, cash or money order.

at 8 p.m., in the Grover C. Maxwell
Performing Arts Theatre at Au

annual Lyceum Series, sponsored
by Student Activities.
The Temple Bombing was cho
senasoneofthe Los Angeles Times
Best Books of 1996 and was one of
theNew York Times Notable Books
for 1996. It won awards from the
Southern Book Critics Circle and
the Georgia Historical Society and
was a finalist for a National Book
