John Lucas,
former NBA star
celebrates with
Project Success
On Friday, June 26, 1998, Project
Success with hold it’s “Five Year
Celebration” at the Augusta-Rich
mond County Civic Center. The
fund-raiser luncheon will be from
11:30a.m. ~ 1 p.m. and will high
light the accomplishments of the
mentoring program for the past
five years. The keynote speaker
will be John Lucas, former NBA
star and coach.
About the speaker
John Lucas was born to be a
sportsman. Over the years he has
excelled in tennis and basketball,
first asa player and now asacoach.
John’s experience both on and off
the courts have made him a suc
cessful businessman, a dedicated
supporter and a true winner. But
thereisalsoapainful sidetoJohn’s
story, as drugs took control of his
life. Lucas was suspended by the
NBA twice for testing positive for
drug use. After the second offense
took place in March 1986, John
sought help. He has been sober
since March 14, 1986. John will
join Project Success and re-live his
story on June 26, 1998 in Augusta.
About the program
Project Success is a program
designed to provide an after school
tutorial and activities program to
increase grades and reduce juve
nile problems for at-risk youth in
the community. The project oper
atesin Augusta-Richmond County.
This program also helps parents of
these children deal with problems
and teachesthem to lead their chil
dren to have productive lives by
providing the parents the essen
tialstoprevail against illness, crime
and non-productivity. The
program’s goal for the parents are
toincrease awarenessof problems,
as well as, increase parental in
volvement through parent train
ing sessions and support groups.

person or corporations may pur
chase a table for SSOO (this table of
eight will seat a parent and child
from the Project Success program).
