The Radisson Riverfront Hotel Augusta is taking lodging reserva
tions for the CSRA Classic which will be held October 22-25, 1998.
- Please fill out the Housing Form below. Information will be needed
to set up room reservations by phone (800-333-3333 or 706-722-8900),
fax (706-823-6513) or mail (Radisson Riverfront Hotel Augusta, Two
Tenth St., Augusta, Ga. 30901.
- Hotel reservation deadline is September 24, 1998 on a first come,
first serve basis. After that date, reservations will be accepted only
on a space availability basis and cannot be guaranteed at the nego
tiated rate.
- All room rates are subject to all applicable state and local taxes.
- All reservations must be guaranteed with one night’s room deposit
or full payment. If an approved credit card is unavailable, the
lodging costs must be paid for in advance. :
- Make checks payable to the Radisson Riverfront Hotel Augusta.
- Mail the Housing Form with deposit or advance payment to the
hotel.
- Cancellation must be made directly with the hotel 24 hours prior to
arrival date for a refund of deposit.

Acupuncture speeds relief
to sports injuries
Aremedythat hasbeen around
for thousands of years is one of
the newest treatment options in
the field of sports medicine.
Acupuncture, which was en
dorsed recently by the National
Institutes of Health for control
of some types of pain, is also
finding its niche in the treat
ment of sports injuries.
“We have had excellent suc
cess with acupuncture in treat
ing sprains and strains and other
sports-related injuries,” said Dr.
John Cianca, an assistant pro
fessor of physical medicine and
rehabilitation at Baylor College
of Medicine in Houston. “Within
a treatment or two, many pa
tients have noticed a 50 to 76
percent reduction in pain and
swelling.”
This allows patients to begin
other components of their reha
bilitation much sooner, limiting
the amount of time spent on the
sidelines.

Post-marathon recovery
You've trained for months for
the marathon, but have you
given any thought about what to
do after you reach the finish
line?
Doug House, an exercise physi
ologist with the Pain Control
and Functional Restoration
Clinic at Baylor College of Medi
cine in Houston, has these sug
gestions for the to-to-six post
marathon hours: drink plenty
of fluids, even if you don’t feel
thirsty; stretch to keep muscles
as loose as possible; take a warm
bath and, if possible, get a mas
sage; take a nap. In the week
following the race, House rec
ommends: gradually adjust your
caloricintake tomatch pre-mara
thon training levels; steady re
sumption of normal activities
without overexertion; and
stretch daily. :
Cross training improves
overall fitness
Want to become a better ten
nis player? Go for a run.
While your backhand might
not benefit directly from a 20-
minute run, you will get an aero
bic workout, which helps to im
prove your overall fitness level.
This is the idea behind cross
training.
“Cross training has several
benefits, including improving
aerobic conditioning, adding va
riety to your workout regimen,
and reducing the risk of overuse
injuries,” said David Brennan,
an exercise physiologist in the
Department of Physical Medi
cine and Rehabilitation at Baylor
College of Medicine in Housfon.
A tennis player might leave
the racket at home once or twice
aweek and go for a run or a swim
instead. A cyclist might switch
to some smaller wheels and take
up in-line skating occasionally.
“This approach can help your
performance level in the activity
you enjoy most,” said Brennan.
