Richmond Purple People Eaters
Larry Lee, Tyrome Singletary,
Mohammad Rashada, Drew Gold
smith, Jhamal Rainy, Rakin
Rashada, and Larry Albert, decided
to dine on wildcat stew with all the
trimmings on the salad green play
ingfield. Senior Fenis Messik whois
also on the wrestling team, seem to
have taken a page out of the play
bookofformer Oakland Raidersgreat
Bubba Smith when he stated, “I do
not know who has the ball, so I just
throw everyone out of the way till I
find out who has it, then make the
tackle.”
Inthis upcoming weekend match
up, the other half of the trivector,
Westside High School, will be look
ing for their piece of the turfagainst

the Purple People Eaters. You
have to give the Wildcats defen
sive team their due respect. For
the first time the phrase “go out
and hit somebody” applied, they
were actually tackling their oppo
nents. Thereisafirethereand Ido
not look to see them with the re
peat of the past year’s loss record.
ASU SOCCER
The Augusta State Jags men’s soc
cer team were kicking around with
the Piedmont College in cat country,
clawing their way to a 4-1 win under
head coach Ron Keller. Piedmont
came hunting Jaguar hide for their
fireplace by scoring first. But the
cats were as-élusive as they 'are’
cunning,/especislly. 'on their one:
home range and in the second half,

with Piedmont getting devoured

although some baseball purists dis
miss this accomplishment as just a
mere token considering the millions
spent on the Braves pitching staff's
payroll. What the so-called baseball
experts also fail to realize is, despite
the millions earned bythose diamond

Give Bobby Cox a little credit, too.

L.C. Laney travels to “The Brick
yard” this Friday to face the Bulldogs
in Thomson in what could be a game
the Wildcats wish would never have
beenscheduled . Bothteamsenterthis
contest with (0-2) recordsdespitesome
fine individual efforts from talented
student-athletes on both squads. A
few die-hard Bulldogfansin McDuffie
County are quietly, but consistently,
startingtogrumbleagain about mak

staff, but that’s nothing new for head
man Butch Jacobs. The experienced

T.W. Josey head coach Tommy
Macon asked the vocal “Green and
Gold” fans and alumni to be patient
with his young team last season and
in large part they were. In '9B that
patienceis paying off hugedividends.
The Eagles are off to a (2-0) start
thanks to speedy running leadership
of QB Marvin Stone. As the Eagles
travel to Statesboro to face the (0-2)
Blue Devils, they’ll have to prepare a
game plan to utilize Dykes as more of
a decoy than a primary offensive
weapon. Let’sjust say thescoutsfrom
Statesboro have been busy designing
a junk defensive scheme all week to
stopthespeedy Dykes. Ifthe Devilshit
the Eagles with eight- or nine-man
defensive front on first and second
down, the deep Josey receiving corps
should be able to reel up some big
yardage. Thekeywillbetheplayofthe
Josey offensive line. Ifthe Eaglescan
gain control of the line of scrimmage
early, they could very well head into
next week’smatch-up with ARC with
aperfect 3and O record, almost assur
ingasell-out crowdat Eagle Stadium.
If Josey can maintain their poise in
hostile territory, this game could be
over by the final quarter.
