Back-to-school conference held at
Laney High, sponsored by sorority

Partnership For Children and
Families, Inc. sponsored its first
Annual Back To School Confer
ence For Teens on Saturday, Au
gust 19, 1998, at the Lucy Craft
Laney Comprehensive High
School.
The theme for the conference
was “Strengthening the Family.”
The conference began at 10 a.m.
with registration and breakfast
followed by the general session
which featured Creative Impres
sions, a youth singing group, di
rected by Ms. Evelyn Ellis. Invo
cation was offered by Mr. George
Grant, mentor, Social Service rep
resentative. Statement of Pur
pose and greetings were given by

Participants chose three ses
sions from the above selections.
A full meal and fun time fol
lowed the workshop sessions in
the Laney cafeteria. Door prizes,
which included two food baskets
wern given to participants at the
conclusion of the sessions.
More than 140 youths and par
ents attended the conference.
Mrs. Henrietta Mason, chapter
member, was the assistant prin
cipal on duty. Mrs. Willie Harrell
is the chairperson of the Teenage
Outreach Committee and coordi
nator of the conference. Dr. Eliza
beth C. Gainous is Program Chair.
Mrs. Georgene Caldwell is presi
dent of the chapter.

Community
Center to hold
annual bazaar
Shiloh Community Center, lo
cated at 1635 Fifteenth Street,
will sponsor its annual bazaar, on
Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m.
to 1 p.m. The bazaar will feature
the sale of hot dogs, cakes, pies,
and much more.
Proceeds from the event will
benefit the center.
The Center also will be accept
ing applications for its annual
tutoring programs in math and
science courses. Tutoring sessions
will start Saturday, October 10,
from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tu
toring will be available for stu
dents from first grade through
high school.

dent $1000) for one course and
$562 (nonresident $1870) for
two courses. Residents of Aiken
and Edgefield counties pay
Georgia resident rates. Classes
will begin October 19.
Students currently enrolled
may add courses if available
from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on
October 14. Students may not
register for any courses they
have been enrolled in during the
current semester. Prior to
registration for any of the
courses, students must be
advised by their advising
department. Any additional
tuition assessed is due by 4:30
p-m. on October 14.
