Kramer. The Image Awards has also recognized
the achievements of courageous individuals, in
cluding Congresswoman Maxine Waters and the
late Commerce Secretary Ron Brown.
The 30th NAACP Image Awards took place on
February 13-14, 1999 at the Pasadena Civic Au
ditorium. The two-hour prime time telecast is
tentatively scheduled to air March 4, 1999 on Fox
for the fourth consecutive year. In his 12th year
with the Image Awards, Hamilton Cloud was the
show’s executive producer. Vicangelo Bulluck
produced for the fourth year. Chuck Vinson
directed for the second year. The 30th NAACP
Image Awards is a production of Thundercloud
Productions in association with Fox Square Pro
ductions.
The 30th NAACP Image Awards is proud to
welcome DaimierChrysler as its first title spon
sor. United Airlines returns as the official carrier
for the 30th NAACP Image Awards. The list of
sponsors also includes General Motors, North
west Airlines, Denny’s and Ramada Hotels.

opportunity to score his first Broadway produc
tion, “Mule Bone,” written by Langston Hughes
and Zora Neal Hurston. Taj’s move to Private
Music in 1991 marked his first collaboration with
an outside producer in 20 years, as he comfortably
came full circle and revived two signature tunes
associated with his Columbia era, “Take a Giant
Step” and “Cakewalk Into Town.”

property of humankind. It emanates from Afri
can-American humankind, but it extends all the
way to embrace the planet. To be part of that

Augusta Players
issues musical
casting call
The Augusta Players announces auditions
for Lionel Bart's classic musical Oliver based
on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, the fourth
adutt production of the 1998/99 season.
Auditions will be held for men and women
ages 17 and up Saturday, February 27, at 1
p.m. and Tuesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. at the
Baliroom of the Bon Air Apartments, 2101
Walton Way. Parts are available for 16 men
and 14 women. Tryouts will consist of a cold
reading from the script and a musical audition.
Participants are asked to bring a prepared
song, along with sheet music if possible. An
accompanist will be provided.
