Knicks reeling after Sprewell injury
The New York Knicks front office
must be asking themselves, “What
didwedotodeservesuchacruelfate?”
Just a few weeks after pulling off a
blockbuster trade to secure the ser
vicesofAll-Starguard Latrell Sprewell
from Golden State, the NBA’s most
notorious “bad-boy” is back in the
headlines. Not for any unscrupulous
deed performed away from the pro
hardwood (insidersfeel strongly“ Spree”
haslearnedhislessonthanksto“PJ!”),
but for a mysterious injury the Uni
versityof Alabama productsustained
recently while actually (now get this,
sportsfans)“playingbasketball!” Be
lieve it or not, with just under two
games under his new Knicks shorts,
Sprewell is now out of action for the
nextthreetosixweeks. Thecause? A
stress fracture of his right heel.

franchises around the entire league.
Injuriestobiceps(Charlotte’s Anthony
Mason is out for the entire season),
hamstrings, elbows, and knees
(Miami’s Jamal Mashburn) have
proventobethemostcommon causes
for playersrunningtotheteam train
ers’ offices. These men aren’t ready
physically to run, jump, and rumble
up and down the hardwood playing
two and sometimes three gamesina
row! Who are you kidding, Dave?

Did someoneinthefrontofficeforget
that the season was just a mere 50

the Knicks actually pull the trade
trigger for the sake of simply making
changes? At this point, one must
reallywonder about thewisdom ofthe
New York braintrust.
AlthoughSpree’seffortsonthecourt
