tion of people throughout the
Zworld. The first ensembles, then
tquartets, began to tour in the
iname of Hampton Institute as
i arly as 1870. First known as
Ege Hampton Singers, the Hamp
n Institute Choir and now the
iHampton University Concert
¢Choir, this august body of sing
{ers maintains the high stan
ydards, professional demeanor,
{charisma, and musical integrity
iset forth by former traditions.

The Hampton University Concert Choir

Abbey, St. Patrick’s Cathedral,
Constitution Hall, and numer

within the selection of choral

Six years.
- BACKGROUND: Rev. Childs
is a graduate of A.R. Johnson
High School and attended Au
gusta Technical Institute, where
she earned a certificate in child
hood development. She is cur
rently enrolled as a freshman at
Paine College, where she is pur
suing a bachelor’s of arts degree
in Religion and Theology.
COMPONENTS OF MINISTRY:
Rev. Childs was once a member of
local famed gospel group The New
Deal Gospel Singers, who were
discovered by the Swanee Quin
tet in 1955. They both recorded

the late 1950 s through the late
19605. Currently, Rev. Childs is
engaged in evangelism, proclaim
ing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in
song, hymns, praise and worship.
At Broadway, she ministers the
youth and serves as director of
the Junior Missions.
MINISTERIAL GOALS: Rev.
Childs wants to obtain a higher
level of counsel and evangelism
for the community.
FAVORITE SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 28:19-20.
