Paine College Concert Choir
Paine College’s Concert Choir
will set out on an extensive two
week northeastern and Midwest
ern fund-raising and recruitment
concert tour beginning on Wednes
day, March 3, 1999, and ending on
Sunday, March 14, 1999. Under
the direction of Dr. Sandra Scott,
the choir will perform in churches
and schools. Repertoire for
churches will include sacred styles
such as anthems, spirituals, and
traditional and contemporary gos
pel. Repertoire for schools will fea
ture secular works including pop,
rhythm and blues, and jazz. Sev
eral solists will sing arias and art

Contest will be held
at 6:00 p.m. on April 1, 1999
in the Alpha Center of
Bethel AME Church.
Any bigh school student
attending a public or private school in
Ricbmond County is eligible to enter.
Prizes are:
$200.00 for first place
$150.00 for second place
SIOO.OO for third place

be held in New York, N.Y., during
the United Negro College Fund’s
Annual meeting. Other cities on
the tour include Philadelphia and
Chester, Pa., Washington, D.C.,
Cincinnati, Ohio, Detroit, Mich.,
Gary, Ind., Milwaukee Wis., and
Chicago, 111.
These talented students hail
from across the country, included
the U.S. Virgin Islands, and they
study a variety of disciplines at
Paine College. Choral Director Dr.
Sandra Scott recently stated, “Itis
my esteemed pleasure to direct a
group of intelligent and talented
students who are committed to
musical and academic excellence.”
