Paine sponsors
Praxis workshop
Paine College will sponsor a
Praxis II workshop on Saturday,
March 6, 1999, from 11:00 a.m.-
"1:00 p.m. in room 220 of Haygood-
Holsey Hall. The workshopis open
to'the public. There is no cost for
SGAE (Student Georgia Associa
tion of Educators) members. How
ever RCAE (Richmond County
Association of Educators)/GAE
(Georgia Association of Educa
tors) and PAGE (Professional As
sociation of Educators) members
are asked to pay a $5.00 fee. All
non-members of a local or state
education association will be
charged a fee of SIO.OO. Proof of
membership must be presented
at the time of registration. Please
register for this workshop by call
ing the Division of Education at

Beasley honored
with Fitzgerald
Scholarship

Jeana Beasle
Paine College’s Miss UNCF
Jeana Beasley has received the
Ella Fitzgerald Scholarshipin the
amount of $2,500. The scholar
ship is given through UNCF to
support outstanding music ma
jors. Ms. Beasley, who will gradu
ate in May, has been accepted by
Jackson State University and the
University of Michigan to pursue
amaster’sdegreein music. Sheis
the daughter of Rev. and Mrs.
William J. Beasley of Augusta.
Her Paine College mentor is Dr.
‘Sandra C. Scott, professor of Mu
sic and Special Assistant to the
President for Special Events.
UNCF scholarships
awarded to
Paine students
A number of Paine College’s
high-performing students have
recently received academic schol
arships from the national office of
the United Negro College Fund
(UNCF). The scholarships, in
amounts ranging from $4,000 to
$5,000 each, help defray the cost
of tuition and room and board at
this private institution of higher
learning.
' Included among Augusta-CSRA
recipients are: Brandy Frails,
Kimberly Beard, Marquita Booth,
Allicent Austin, and Deborah
Bullock. Other awardees are:
Dawud Ziyad (Denver, Colo.),
Schenese Williams (Hardeeville,
S.C.), Tonasshia Lavergne and
Marie Carroll (Houston, Texas),
Scherika Foster (Jessup, Ga.),
Kami Briscoe (Atlanta, Ga.),
Lakesha Charles (Waycross, Ga.)
and Tiajuanna Burnes (Savan
nah, Ga.)
' Also, Jeffrey Thomas, a reli
gion and philosophy major, has
been awarded the Arthur Ross
Foundation Scholarship of $3,215
for the 1998-99 academic school
year. The award will cover Mr.
Thomas' unmet financial needs
as verified by the Paine College
Financial Aid director. The UNCF
has continued to support Paine
College in its efforts of helping
deserving and talented students
achieve their academic goals.
