Kersee found the Boys & Girls
Club of San Pedro a great place to
meet new friends. There, he also
developed a love of sports and
fitness. Soon Kersee became a
standout high school track athlete
and later began coaching while
working on his bachelor’s degree
in physical education and his
master’s degree in exercise physi
ology. During his storied career,
the United States proposed to re
build the continent in the interest
of political stability and a healthy
world economy. On June 5, 1947,
in a commencement address at
Harvard University, Secretary of
State George C. Marshall first
called for American assistance in
restoring the economicinfrastruc
ture of Europe. Western Europe
responded favorably, and the
Truman administration proposed

The Atlanta Botanical Garden, 1345 Piedmont Rd., will host its Sixth Annual Asian
Cultural Experience the weekend of June 26-27. This event will showcase the art, music,
fashion, food, ddnce and games of China, India, Indonesia, Japan and Taiwan.
Demonstrations will include calligraphy, flower arranging, a traditional tea ceremony,
music, dance and martial arts. There will also be a dragon parade of people in traditional
costume. Native foods and beverages will be available for purchase. The experience will
run Sat. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more info
