Story Time on Sat.,July 17,at 2 p.m. Bark,
George! by Jules Feiffer will be featured.
The First Book Club is a monthly story
time event that benefits the national non
profit organization First Book, which gives
disadvantaged children new books of their
own. In our community, First Book sup
ports the Augusta Local Advisory Board.
The bookstore will hold a home schooling
forum on Thurs., July 22, at 7:30 p.m.
Members of the Augusta Area Home Edu
cation Network will look at the laws, myths
and realities of educating your children at
home.
EBorders Books & Music, 257 Robert
C. Daniel Jr. Pkwy. of Augusta, will host
live musicon July 17 and 18. On Sat., July
17, Steven Jackson will perform contempo
rary folk music. Elliot Holden will enter
tain on July 18 with progressive jazz rock.
EGeorgia Writers, Inc., the local chap
ter of the state organization, will meet on
Monday night, July 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the
Augusta-Richmond County Library on
Greene Street. Writers needing a support
group are invited to attend and bring cop
ies of manuscripts to be critiqued.
BAppleby Library, Walton Way at
Johns Rd., will hold a Garden Concert on
Tues., July 20, at 8 p.m. Featured will be
Roberta Wilder. Bring your own lawn
chairs or blankets for seating. A limited
number of rental chairs will be available.

tion and Visitors Bureau will host addi
tional walking and van tours of the historic
downtown area for Thurs. through Sat.,
July 22-24. Cost of the walking tours will

aerobic inAstructor certification in the in

a.m. and warm up/cool down training from

BArts in the Park 1999 will be a series
of free two-hour workshops conducted in
area parks. The Augusta-Richmond
County Recreation and Parks Dept. and
Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art will of
fer the nine workshops featuring Native
Americans. Students will learn about
Chippewa Indians and design and create a
Chippewa Dream Catcher. The following
dates and locations are: July 26 - McDuffie
Woods Community Center;July 27 - Blythe
Community Center; July 28 - Hephzibah/
Carroll Community Center; July 29 -
Mcßean Community Center; and July 30 -
Bernie Ward Community Center. Free

BThe Augusta-Richmond County
Museum, 560 Reynolds St., hosts its
award-winning “Augusta’s Story” perma
nent exhibit and “Messages in Bottles: A
History of Bottling and Bottle-making in
Augusta” exhibit through Oct. 31. The
“Georgia Games Art in Motion Exhibition”
will be located in the rotunda for July.
Museum hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 10
a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 - 5 p.m. For

Writing Competition will be held up to

EThe Gertrude Herbert Institute of
Art, 506 Telfair St. in Augusta, is cur
rently exhibiting recent work by Augusta
artist Kathy Girdler-Engler in its main
gallery. “Recent Sculptural Work: Kathy
Girdler-Engler” will be on display until
July 237, The Student Gallery will display
“lI Love Art Camp,” selected works by
youngsters in the summer art camp. One
more summer art camp session is sched
uled for July 19-23, for two hours daily.

plore a variety of art styles and media
“hands-on,” creating an individual art

BGarrett teaches novel writing
