Aiken Tech student earns co-op
with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Aiken Technical College student
Arthur Brown recently signed a
letter of agreement for a coopera
tivework experience with the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers Savan
nah District. ;
Brown, a student in the Elec
tronics Engineering Technology
and Computer Engineering Tech
nology programs at ATC, will par
ticipate in the Hydropower Train
ing Program. While still attend
ing classes at ATC, he will work
part-time for the Corps of Engi
neers at the Richard B. Russell, J.
Strom Thurmond and Hartwell
power plants. He will earn a sal
ary and be eligible for job benefits
ashelearns the inner workings of
a hydroelectric plant.
The four year program prepares
studentsfor careers aspower plant
operators, mechanics, electricians
and electronics mechanics.

Ft. Discovery hosts special night of fun, July 22
The National Science Center’s Fort Discovery, a proud sponsor of the ¥
Georgia Games Augusta Championships, will hold a special night of fun
on Thursday, July 22, 1999. Beginning at 8 to 9 p.m,, following the Geor
gia Games Torch Walk ceremony, everyone is invited to visit Fort Discov
ery to enjoy the 270 awesome hands-on exhibits, exciting live science
demonstrations, sensory theater and more. Also on hand will be the
Georgia Games mascot “Spike” who will meet and greet visitors young
and old alike. Special admission for the Torch Walk celebration is $3 for
children and $4 for adults. Children under four will be admitted free.

Monday morning traffic was halted for about 45-minutes on_
July 19, when an 18-wheeler headed west on Interstate 20, 2
inadvertently jack-knifed, blocking traffic on both westbound
lanes near mile marker 195 at the Bobby Jones-i-20 junction,,
