by four of his clients when it
was revealed he was under
investigation by the NFL Play
ers Association and the Uni
versity of Florida police for
illegal agent activity. Sus

surfaced as former academic
counseling office manager Jan
Gangelhoff claimed she had

written more than 400 papers
for players from 1993 to 1998.
The players in question were
suspended, the Cophers lost
to Gonzaga, and most every
one in Minnesota, including
Gov. Jesse Ventura, cried foul,
claiming the newspaper that
ran the allegations were sim
ply trying to drum up busi

Marion James is poised to as
sume Jackie Joyner-Kersee’s
title as best female athlete on
the planet. Formerly starting
point guard for the University
of North Carolina’s 1994 Na
tional Championship basket
ball team, she has since de
cided to hang up her high tops
and concentrate on track and
field. Atthe 1997 World Cham
pionships in Athens, Jones
won gold medals in the 100 m
and 4xloomrelay. Atthe U.S.
Championships, she recorded
golds in the 100 m and long
jump. In 1998, she won 35 of
36 events. Jones predictsshe’ll
win four gold medals in the
upcoming World Champion
ships in Seville. In addition,
she hopes to add one more
event to her arsenal and go for
an incredible five golds t the
Sydney Olympic Games in
2000 — a feat no track athlete
