Augusta residents elected to beer board
ATLANTA
J. Doug Herman, president of
Beverage South, Inc., was re
cently elected first vice presi
dent of the Georgia Beer Whole
salers Association. Joe Pond,
president and general manager,
A.B. Beverage Company, Inc.,
was re-elected to serve on the
Board of Directors.
The elections were held at the
60 Annual Convention of the
Georgia Beer Wholesalers Asso
ciation. Over 200 wholesalers,

Dr. Susan A. Graham has been
named the new president of Aiken
Technical College.
The announcement was made
by Joe W. DeVore, Chairman of
the Aiken County Commission for
Technical and Comprehensive
Education. The Commission chose
Dr. Graham from among four fi
nalist for the position.
‘Dr. Graham currently serves as
Associate Executive Director for
Academic Affairs and Technology
for the South Carolina State Board
for Technical and Comprehensive
Education. Prior to being ap
pointed to the State Board she
held a series of progressively re
sponsible positions at Spartanburg
Technical College. Beginning in
1986, she served as faculty mem
ber, Dean of the Health Sciences
Division, Dean of the Business
Division, and five years as Vice
President for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Graham holds a master of
public health degree from the
University of North Carolina and
a Ph.D. from the University of
South Carolina.
“Dr. Graham is on vacation, so
she called in from Utah to very
graciously and very happily ac
cept this position,” DeVore said.
“She will begin her duties on the
tentative date of September 1,
when she will help us carry this
school forward into the next cen
tury.”
DeVore thanked ATC Interim
President Don Campbell for guid
ing ATC until a president could be
selected. He also praised the Com
mission “that worked so hard and
sodiligently to do what is best for
this college.” ;
The four finalists for the posi
tion were interviewed July 22, 23
and 24 by the Commission. A
search committee formed by the
SBTCE selected the finalist from
among 32 applicants. Candidates
also visited the Aiken Technical
College campus over the past two
weeks, meeting with administra
tors and faculty representatives.
DeVore was a member of the
search committee, along with the
president of another college within
the S.C. Technical College Sys
tem, a member of the SBTCE and
a representative of the Human
Resources Department of the
SBTCE.
The other three finalist for the
president’s position were Dr. Tho
mas L. Hallman, Vice Chancellor
for Administration at the Univer
sity of South Carolina Aiken; Dr.
Thomas V. Mecca, Senior Vice
President and Chief Educational
Officer at Piedmont Technical
College in Greenwood; and Dr.
Lois Wells Vice President for Aca
demicand Student Affairs at Allen
County Community College in
lola, Kansas.

ers Association is the trade as
sociation of all 56 beer distribu
tors in Georgia. Association
members delivered 74.5 million
cases of beer to over 14,500 re
tailers statewide in 1998. Whole
sale beer sales contributed 72.9
million in excise taxes to the
state treasury of Georgia and
SB6 million in local taxes to the
city and county governments
which authorize beer sales.
